11 Ways To Know You're From Iowa

It might just be considered a fly-over state for most, but for us, it's the greatest state in America. The people will always be friendlier, the food will always be better, and no one else will ever understand because they aren't from Iowa. There's little things that you appreciate that no one else will get. Nothing beats Iowa.

1. You appreciate a good sunset.

You know a good sunset when you see one. There's nothing like looking out your window in the summer and seeing the beautiful rainbow of light over the horizon.

2. You're a pro at the two-finger wave.

You may not know who it is you're waving to, but you're friendly enough to give a slight acknowledgement of their presence.

3. College football is your NFL.

Who needs the NFL when you bleed the colors of your favorite college team? You live for the tailgates and parades with the people that love the same school that you do.

4. Seeing a tractor on the highway as a challenge.

Don't forget about that two-finger wave as you're speeding past.

5. You race...everything.

4-wheelers, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, go karts, on foot -- anything.

6. You've had every corn dish imaginable.

Creamed, casserole, on the cob, salad, cornbread, chowder, salsa, fritters, salad. It's basically the Bubba Gump of corn.

7. It's "Pop." It always will be.

"Soda" is a foreign language. Everyone else is wrong.

8. Going on "vacation" was just a trip to Adventureland.

You were a pro at tackling The Dragon immediately followed by The Silly Silo.

9. RAGBRAI is like the Olympics.

Seeing thousands of bike riders dip their tires in the Mississippi River is like feeling pride for your country winning a gold medal.

10. You've taken a picture with the butter cow at the state fair.

So. Much. Butter.

11. No matter what, you'll always love Iowa.

You'll always miss the small towns, fried food, and friendly people. It's not much, but you'll always call it home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
