The Best Kind Of Beautiful

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14

The Best Kind Of Beautiful
Lori Johnson

In our world today there is so much negativity. Especially with weight and body issues. The media tells women how they should look, feel, dress and act. You will always be too fat or too skinny, the wrong color, too tall or too short. So what considered beautiful? The media will never be satisfied. But are we satisfied? What makes us feel good about the way we look? What makes YOU feel beautiful?

I love to workout. I think I could say that besides putting on makeup and a cute outfit, working out is what makes me feel beautiful on the outside. Working out makes me feel stronger, independent and motivated. Working out makes me not only look better but it makes me healthier.

Eating healthy and exercising has become a new fad within the past several years. Why? Because the media said so. The media told us we were obese and unhealthy so people listened and began making drastic lifestyle changes. Wouldn’t it be awesome if the media told us that we were beautiful because we are made exactly the way God wanted us to be made and people started making the most important lifestyle change, which is following Jesus!
Why would we allow someone on the television, who has no idea who we really are, tell us we are not pretty enough? Too fat? Too skinny? Too tall? Too short? We have a personal Savior, who knows us by name, who tells us through His word that we ARE beautiful. Women are uniquely made and no matter what shape, size, or color, GOD LOVES YOU!

The bible teaches us about the importance of the heart. True beauty comes from within and is manifested by pure motives and a loving spirit. In the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 25, the bible tells us about Abigail. Abigail was an intelligent beauty. She was acknowledged by God as “a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance.” Because Abigail honored God in her works, she was blessed; she was beautiful inside and out!

I choose to work out and eat right mostly because of the way it makes me feel, self confidence as well as health wise and how it makes me look is just a bonus! But I choose to read my bible and listen to the word of God because there is nothing that can ever compare to God’s love.

God desires us to be who He created us to be on the inside and out, with a heart for Him and wisdom from above. So, be your own kind of beautiful that God has blessed you with. Honor Him in all that you do and stop listening to the constant negativity.

Let the media and everyone around you say whatever they please about your appearance. But if Jesus is living in your heart just know that you are the best kind of beautiful!

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
