The Best Of Fall

Don’t let people shame you for your PSL, it’s just a way of life.

The Best Of Fall

In recent years, fall has gotten a bad reputation, especially with the pumpkin spice outbreak that has plagued many a Walmart. Now I do believe that pumpkin spice is overrated, but that doesn’t mean that fall is. Here’s my list of favorite things, in no particular order, about the fairest season of them all.

1. Apples

Apples, apple picking, apple pie… the list could continue for ages and it should because apples are the real MVPs of fall. Add a little cinnamon-sugar and you’re all set. Noms for days.

2. Sweaters

Sweater weather is a real thing and it is wonderful. Sweaters are comfortable, come in a bunch of different colors and let us keep avoiding jackets. I have also yet to find a bad occasion to wear a sweater, so there is that.

3. Trees

If you live in New England, you know that when the trees change color it’s a big deal. The traffic even gets worse because people come from all over to see how beautiful the trees are. However, nothing can put a damper on how amazing the trees look and because the leaves will be falling soon, obviously you have to Instagram it while you can.

4. Scarves

Scarves are a glorious thing. Unlike hats that only serve to ruin a good hair day, scarves make every outfit more fun, especially if you’re wearing a sweater. (See what I did there?)

5. Halloween

Although Christmas will forever be my favorite holiday, Halloween will always a close second. Whether it is the jack-o’-lanterns or the fun themed parties, Halloween gives people the chance to go a little crazy. Besides, who doesn’t love free candy?

6. No bugs

I think that the title says it all.

7. Cuddles

Whether it is your boyfriend, your best friend, or your dog, cuddling is the best. The weather is our best wingman, especially after summer when touching people is just too gross. As soon as that first fall breeze hits, BANG, perfect cuddle weather. Doesn’t get much better than that.

8. Thanksgiving

Late November is almost winter in New England but, even if it’s snowing, all the Thanksgiving decorations are fall themed so it had to be on the list. Thanksgiving is basically a banquet of fall food to be shared with family and friends -- it doesn’t get much better than that.

9. Apple Cider

Oh, apple cider how I love you so. To me, apple cider is the real drink of fall. While everyone has their preferences (hot, cold, extra cinnamon, malt, alcoholic) cider is a solid choice for any and every fall occasion. And obviously in its perfection, it deserves its own place on the list.

10. Pumpkins

Don’t worry people, pumpkins made the cut. Although, as I said before, the pumpkin spice plague has brought a lot of skepticism on the value of fall, pumpkins remain to be one of my favorite things. Pumpkin seeds, jack-o’-lanterns, and pumpkin pie are some of the traditional favorites and there are some amazing pumpkin whoopee pies out there that are just too delicious.

So, for those of you who continue to hate fall, I’m sorry, you’re really missing out. And for my fellow fall lovers, please continue your unabashed joy during this magnificent season because we all know that winter is coming.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
