The Beginning Of The End: Senior Year

Senior year. How the hell did I get here? Just yesterday I was romping around campus naively taking on my first welcome week with no clue in the world what a college midterm felt like or what the aroma of a fraternity basement smelled like. Now all the sudden I’ve have mastered pulling all-nighters at club lib as well as become accustomed to the fresh scent of sweat, alcohol and horny fraternity brothers.

While college has been one heck of a ride, it would be an understatement to say that it has simply passed by, because it zoomed faster than Usain Bolt crossing the finish line. And to say I am a senior is as shocking as an electrical storm (see what I did there?). But seriously, it’s hard to fathom that I am nearing the end of the “best four years of my life” phase. From all the memories I’ve made to the experiences I’ve learned from, there’s a lot to be said about Michigan State University, the best school in the world if you didn’t know, and its amazing campus culture.

Football games and tailgates are among college students’ favorite things, along with living in a house with your best friends, staying out until the break of dawn (studying or partying) and truly finding yourself a long the way.

Looking back at the person I am today to the person I was when I first stepped foot on campus, it is amazing to see my personal transformation. I’ve loved, I’ve lost and I’ve lived it up in my three years so far. I’ve experienced frustration and anger while also becoming passionate and enthusiastic about things that excite me. I’ve learned a lot about who I am, who I want to be and where I want to go. College does that to you, I guess.

So my advice to incoming freshmen is to get excited that you're starting this awesome chapter of your life, and don’t look back. I know you’re nervous and it’s scary to be independent for the first time ever, but you got this. Freshmen year is a blast, so enjoy it. Us seniors are extremely jealous of you.

Newbie sophomores, you may not be the babies on campus anymore, but sophomore year is just as important. You know the ropes now, so start discovering what you really want to do. It’s okay to change your major, but do it sooner rather than later so you can start working towards a career that will best suit you.

Freshly turned juniors, this is another fun filled year. Live it up and don’t be too bogged down by the career fairs or med school applications, but always put your best foot forward. Keep on studying hard and do what YOU want. You only have a two more years left, so make sure you end college on the best note possible.

My fellow seniors, graduation is approaching and the real world is almost a reality. With a bright future ahead, be proud of who you have become in your time as an undergraduate student. The last four years of college may be ending, but you’re just beginning other amazing chapters. So get excited for this next year and for what’s to come.

Whether you're brand new to campus or an experienced veteran, have a great year and good luck! To my lovely seniors, here's to the beginning of the end!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
