With every new year comes new trends, and it's safe to say that 2017 has had some pretty iconic crazes (including the newest addition of rompers for men...not sure how I feel about that one). Here are some of the year's most noteworthy trends that you have likely seen "basic" girls rocking in 2017:
1. Ripped Jeans
This one is huge. If you've existed in 2017, you've seen girls wearing jeans with gaping holes so big that some adult who thinks they're really funny feels the need to ask, "did you buy those with the holes in them? do you need to borrow my sewing kit?"
2. Chokers
As an ode to the 90s, I'm assuming, tattoo chokers and velvet chokers have made a massive comeback in 2017. What's next? Track suits?
3. S'well Water Bottles
S'well water bottles are all the rage these days. I've never owned one personally but I hear the magic is that they keep your drink cold or hot all day (honestly, I think people just buy them for the pretty patterns).
4. Adidas Superstars
Another blast from the past, Adidas Superstars have been showing up everywhere this year. In a crowd of basic girls, there's bound to be one with Superstars on her feet.
5. Redbubble Stickers
This trend is my personal favorite. You gotta admit a laptop decked out in stickers is really cute and a great way to show off your personality and things you like. So tumblr.
6. Mirrored Sunglasses
A 2017 basic girl's outfit is not complete without a pair of glasses with reflective lenses that shine brighter than the sun. Bonus points if you take them off every once and a while to check your reflection.
7. Avocado Toast
Many have criticized millennials for our obsession with avocado toast, but come on. It's really damn good (pro tip: add garlic salt and crushed red pepper on top for a 10/10 avo toast experience. YOM).
8. Boho Tapestries
A 2017 basic girl's apartment or dorm decor is not complete without a ~trendy~ boho tapestry from Urban Outfitters. It's just a given.
9. Giant Balloon Letters/Numbers
Because what better way to get a cute birthday Insta post than to pose with giant metallic balloon numbers?
10. Dunkin' Donuts Iced Coffee
Maybe this has always been a thing and I've just started to notice it, but doesn't it seem like every basic girl is never caught without a Dunkin iced coffee in hand? Just me? Ok.
11. Herschel Backpacks
Because what else are you going to use to carry around your s'well water bottle, mirrored sunglasses, and laptop decked out in stickers?
