I love my long hair. If I brush and dry it correctly it comes out looking sleek and shiny, and at times it makes me feel like a goddess or a mermaid. My hair connects me to my culture and helps make me who I am. However, there are some struggles to having long hair. Ladies and dudes with long hair, you know the struggles too.

1. Riding in the car with the windows down.

Unless you have a hair tie or something else that can somewhat keep your hair in place, the windows should be rolled up, and the A/C should be on. This seems to be something that guys just cant comprehend. Wind+long hair=knots that will take an hour to untangle, not looking like Pocahontas.

2. Your hair ends up everywhere.

It is said that humans lose about a little over 100 hairs a day. Well women with long hair must be friggin’ special because it seems like we lose 500 hairs within one day, and somehow we aren’t bald. You hair can be found in the bathroom, all the sinks in your home, in the shower drain, parking lot, and even in places that you rarely go, like your roommate’s room for example.

3. Your arms get tired.

We’re not weak, but holding our arms up for three minutes straights while trying to master some hair tutorial on youtube is exhausting.

4. It gets in the way.

There are variations of how your hair can get in the way. My personal favorites are when I accidentally zip my hair up in my coat, try to be cute and give my boyfriend a kiss and he ends up eating my hair, and when I’m sweaty and my hair seems to stick to every part of my body.

5. Not being able to master the sexy hair flip.

I swear models and actresses take some sort of sexy-hair-flipping class that teaches them how to make a hairlip look flawless. If I were to try to flip and toss my hair from side to side I would end up looking like the grudge. *Side note: Beyoncé still looks hot as ever even though that hair flip was a fail.

6. Running out of conditioner before shampoo

You know what makes hair soft? Conditioner. A quarter size drop of conditioner will not make 24in. of hair silky smooth. It takes about half of the bottle before your hair feels like how it should be.

7. Dealing with long hair on a hot day

No matter how high your hair bun sits on top of your head you just can’t cool off. These are the times that make you wish you chop off your hair as effortlessly as Mulan.

8. Always having to buy hair ties and bobby pins

You’re positive that this time the 200 pack will last you at least a month. Better think again.

9. Thinking something is crawling on you

As we established, our hair falls out frequently, However, it doesn't always make it to the floor and ends up sticking on our clothes. It’ll dangle from from our short sleeves, shorts, skirts, etc, just long enough to graze our skin and create the illusion that something is crawling on us. I have to admit that I’ve slapped my arms and legs on more than one occasion thinking a spider was on me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
