The 7 Things I am Frequently Asked NOT Being from Buffalo
I’ll admit that I am not from a big city like Buffalo but sometimes people act like I am from another planet. One of the biggest culprits is one of my closest friends, Corrine. I mean just because I’m not from Buffalo doesn’t mean I’m not from Earth… Well these are just some of the super weird questions I’ve gotten.
1.“So, you’re from the country?”
Corrine hits me with this the most. I tell her I’m from a small town three hours east and because the thruway is all through country, it’s assumed I am from the country.
2.“What’re Chicken Riggies??”
This I cannot really blame on anyone in particular because chicken riggies are a central New York specialty and I don’t expect people to know what they are. However, I do feel bad for those that will never have them. They are totally missing out on something great.
3.“Do you know what chicken wings are?”
This is my personal favorite... yes, I know what they are.
4.“Well do you have them where you’re from?”
Yes, other places outside of Buffalo have chicken wings…
5.“What about a Wegmans?”
Although the closest one is roughly 45 minutes away, we do know what Wegmans is. And yes we do know how awesome they are.
6.“Do you guys have cows and chickens in the street?”
Again, we are not from the country! I mean yes there are chickens on Main Street thanks to my senior year English teacher and if you drive 20 minutes there is a possibility you will encounter cows, there are NOT cows and chickens running freely all over.
7.“Was your graduating class like 50 people?”
I know I’m from “the country” but no my graduating class was not 50. People assume when I say I knew everyone in my graduating class that there could only be 50 of us. There were about 250 of us. It just so happens that when you go to school with the same people for 7 years you really get to know them.
I hope this sheds some light for the people who don’t realize that there are places outside of the good old Buffalo.
