The 6 BEST Things About A Sorority

Rushing to be in a sorority was never something I thought twice about. Where I grew up, it was almost expected of every girl who went to college. Coming back home with all of your new sorority gear and your new sorority friends, but some girls are not quite sure how it could turn out. Here are some reasons you should absolutely rush.

1. You will find your best friends even when you think it isn't possible to find better friends you did in high school.

I went into college with the expectations that there is no way that anyone could ever beat out my friends from high school and that's that. I was so wrong. You do everything with these girls. It is almost near impossible to not be best friends with them. You brush your teeth with them, sleep with them, do homework with them, you are never going to be alone. They will be your bridesmaids, your kids will be friends with their kids. The girls you will spend every night of the weekend with deciding whose closet you want to raid that day to steal their clothes because you are tired of your own. You will have an overwhelming amount of love and support.

2. You will never have a bad day.

I can very easily think of so many bad days I have had while in college, and can 100% say that they would have been worse days without my sorority sisters. Not so much that they are able to fix whatever is going on to make me have a bad day, but that someone is always going to be there for you in the house. You will never cry alone.

3. You will get better grades.

A lot of girls can be worried about their grades slipping if they join a house, but I am here to tell you that they will not. You will have so many girls pushing you to be your best and to do your homework. Most houses have a GPA requirement that you must meet each semester therefore you will be motivated to get very good grades.

4. You will learn new things about yourself.

During the recruitment process, it can be heartbreaking when you get dropped from a house that you really liked. That you thought for sure you would be in. Trust me when I say, the girl rushing you has nothing but your best interest in mind. They know the house better than you do at the moment and will almost instantly be able to tell if you are going to fit in or not. And if you do not fit in there, 99% of the time, you fit into a different house better than you thought you would and the girl rushing you saw it before you did.

5. It will be your home away from home.

Being homesick can really suck. But a sorority house is not a dorm, it is a house, with a kitchen that everyone eats in at the same time, sometimes with a cold air room that everyone sleeps in together, events that you all sometimes do not want to go to but you will all go together so it makes it out to be fun. It is a home, not just a place where all of your things are.

6. The clothing.

Ladies, if you did not find the above five reasons to be good enough. Do it for the clothes. You get SO MANY CLOTHES.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
