When a young man takes a leap of faith and becomes a part of a fine upstanding fraternity during his college years, he accepts a new family in his life. When he becomes a member, he gains an entirely new group of friends that he may now call brothers. After joining said fraternity, a young man will look around and see certain guys in the group that exist in a specific way within the fraternity. These are the types of guys he encounters…
The Go-Getter
This is your classic, by-the-book fraternity man. The Go-Getter is the guy who is always trying to do something to help the fraternity. He’s a hard worker and is someone that you’d want in your foxhole with you. He probably ends up being the president of the fraternity before his time concludes at the university. The Go-Getter never misses a meeting and is always following the rules of the group.
The Slacker
This guy is essentially the polar opposite of the Go-Getter. He rarely shows up to meetings, and, when he does, he’s either on his phone the entire time or sitting in the back of the room spouting off about how pointless the meeting is. The Slacker acts like he’s not interested in the fraternity and doesn’t care about anything because he’s way too cool, but deep down we know he cares.
The Party Animal
Now this is the dude in your fraternity who always wants to party, reminiscent of Bluto from “Animal House”. It could be 10 a.m. on a Wednesday, and he still wants to know what you’re doing or where you’re going that night. He always wants to know where the next party is. He is generally quiet at chapter meetings until someone mentions a party, at which point he jumps into action as if he’d been brought back from the dead.
The Risk Manager
The Risk Manager is your classic “No” man. He’s the one in the group who has to say no to all of the reckless and ridiculous ideas that get proposed. You sometimes hate the Risk Manager because he’s essentially just the fraternity dad who tells everyone they can’t have fun, but you end up thanking him later. If the Risk Manager wasn’t around, who would be there to stop us from building a zip-line from the chimney of the house into an inflatable pool filled with beer? Ultimately, the Risk Manager is the guy who keeps the fraternity from destroying itself, so next time you see him, be sure to thank him for his services.
The No-Show
The No-Show is the guy who you sometimes forget is a brother of the fraternity. He never shows up to anything, and every time someone says his name, there is a collective “where the hell has he been?” from the group. Seeing the No-Show is a rare but always welcome sight.
These different archetypes of fraternity men can be found in almost all chapter houses at universities around the country. If you are a member of a fraternity, I’m sure you can name multiple brothers from your house that fall into each category.
