I am 100 percent that person who starts preparing for fall in the middle of August. Honestly, I've had my "Autumn Leaves" Yankee Candle burning since late July. If you're the same way, and you're ready to get ready for the spooky Halloween season ahead, I've picked a couple of my favorite scary movies that you can watch to really settle into the season.
1. "Sinister"
Honestly, I've grown up watching scary movies. In fact, when I was a young pre-school student in my town's local Catholic school, I felt the need to let my teacher know that my favorite movie was "The Exorcist". However, "Sinister" is one horror movie that truly terrified me. I could not stop thinking about it for weeks after seeing it for the first time.
2. "The Strangers"
This is another one of those movies that really shook me up. Since seeing "Based on True Events" pop up prior to the opening credits, I knew I was going to be horrified. And I was definitely not wrong; this movie is seriously creepy.
3. "The Purge"
This might totally just be a personal thing, but horror movies that seem so plausible and realistic really scare me. "The Purge" is obviously fictional, although it doesn't seem impossible that we could end up in a state of such chaos that we are killing our own kind legally and under no scrutiny.
4. "Deliver Us From Evil"
I asked my mom to take me to this movie on my sixteenth birthday out of the idea that it would be a fun, exciting experience. Needless to say, I was clinging to my crusty theater seat the whole time. This film throws you in every which way with the constant lingering of jump scares that just messed me up.
5. "Annabelle Creation"
I just went to see this movie a few days ago with some friends, and I did not expect it to be as terrifying as it was. The original "Annabelle," while it was scary, didn't really leave me in awe of its fear factor. However, this prequel really stood up to the plate and made for a truly horrifying film.
If you're brave enough, go check out some of these thrillers. And, out of curiosity, and also as one of the most notorious horror movie villains might ask, "What's your favorite scary movie?"
