Warfare, since it's beginning, has changed dramatically. The idea is still the same; it's the tactics and maneuvers that have changed.
When I think of war, I picture the American Revolutionary War; soldiers lining up across from each other, taking turns trying to kill each other, slowly reloading their muskets with death looming over head.
I think it might be because of the musket. A single shot weapon, the musket in no way compares to the guns of today.
The guns of today are completely unnecessary; I don't think anyone needs to have automatic weapons, toting 30 round clips.
I believe every American should own at least one gun; I just think it should be a musket.
With a musket, you have one shot before you have to make a choice to reload it or not.
You can't really be trigger happy when you're carrying a weapon that has to be reloading manually after every shot; this would really help reduce the amount of violence in the U.S.
Think about it, how many lives would be saved if automatic (and semi-automatic) weapons were off the market?
My guess, a lot.
Mass shootings would be a thing of the past; gang violence would be stifled enormously if the only weapon at their disposal was a musket.
Is this a realistic goal for America, at any point? Most likely not; guns are something Americans hold close to their hearts.
I don't think people are wrong for wanting to have automatic weapons and high-powered rifles; America is a country of excess, immersed in a culture of "more please."
Like muskets, the weapons of today have evolved from their predecessors, slowly being honed into more efficient killing machines.
With muskets, I believe there is a happy medium. On the one hand, people would still get to have guns; on the other hand, the musket would be far less destructive and would most likely result in less killing.
I'm not for restricting freedoms, but I am for saving people's lives and giving everyone a safer environment to live in.
Let's get back to the days of muskets and flintlock pistols, let's do away with unnecessary firepower and clip size; let's do away with senseless violence.
