By now everyone that reads my articles or knows me in real life knows that I love The 1975 more than I love my own life. They are my favorite band on Earth and my entire life basically revolves around obsessing over everything they do.
That being said, when They 1975 released their second album, "I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it," I may or may not have sped to get home so I could listen to it and cry. Between this album and their self-titled debut, "The 1975," their music is an experience to be had, or, as I call it, the soundtrack to my life.
As you may recall, I wrote about seeing them in June in Charlotte at the Charlotte Metro Federal Credit Union Amphitheater. So when The 1975 announced a fall U.S. tour, I swore to myself I wasn’t going to go. I remember thinking, “You saw them in the summer and it was lit! You don’t need to see them again. You’ve already gotten your wish.” But then I found out that they were changing the setlist for the fall tour. There was one song, “Milk” on the new setlist that I’d been dying to hear since I even knew who The 1975 were. So naturally when I saw the new setlist, I knew I had to go see them again.
So, on Friday, November 18, 2016 my dad drove me almost three hours to Boone, North Carolina to see The 1975 at the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State University. It was a tad chilly and I did have to stand outside a bit before they opened the door but it was worth it to see my favorite band.
At one point that night, I literally lost it and started sobbing. This happened at the last The 1975 concert as well. The first time, it was the song “Me” that got to me, the second time it was “Robbers.” I’m pretty sure people were staring at me both times but it was an emotional, ethereal experience that they just couldn’t understand.
While most things about 2016 have been absolutely and utterly terrible, the concerts I’ve been to have been incredible. I think 2016 has musically been one of the best years ever. There have been some wonderful albums to come out this year and "Iliwysfyasbysuoi" is definitely one of them. Hearing new jams such as “She’s American” and “Paris” live as well as old favorites such as “M.O.N.E.Y” and “Milk.”
All of the visuals associated with The 1975, including their latest album, their concerts and their merchandise, are absolutely breathtaking. While I may not have taken the best pictures, it’s okay because I’m being honest when I say a picture cannot do their stage production and setup justice. Their aesthetic truly is art.
Seeing The 1975 in June was probably the second best day of my life. It was hot and fun and emotional. The only thing to possibly come close would be seeing The 1975 in November.
