One of my favorite things to do during break is finally watch all of the shows I couldn't watch during the semester. But the catch is that you only have so much time during break to accomplish this! So binge watching happens, which is made even easier with websites like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. There are 11 stages of binge watching that naturally occur, and I've documented them below.
1. Frantic search
The search to find your next favorite show begins. Searching through lists and lists of recommendations and "suggestions for you" can be quite the process, but you stick it out, hoping it will be worth the work.
2. The tentative step
Finally deciding on a show, you watch the first episode. Deciding it's good enough, you go ahead and click on the second episode to see whether it lives up to the first episode.
3. Enjoyment
You find yourself rooting for the characters, enjoying the fun writing and laughing at the running jokes, but you're still unsure if you can fully commit to the show.
4. Falling in love
Finally you reach the point in the show when everything starts getting really good. You determine that this show is everything you've ever wanted. You know this show is "the one" and you can never imagine your life before it happened.
5. Spending your entire day watching
And soon a day turns into the entire week.
6. You plan around when you can watch the show
Two minutes before it's time to leave? That's more than enough to continue in your watching. Even when you're out, you try to get everyone else to hurry up so you can get back and find out what happened after that huge cliffhanger. Sleep is eventually forsaken in order to watch more of the show.
7. Your family judges you
The "How far are you into the show?" questions start and then judgement follows when it's revealed that you're more than halfway in after just a few days. I mean, who are they to judge? They don't understand how important the last few episodes were to your sanity!
8. The end
All good things must come to an end. Even your new favorite, binge-worthy TV show.
9. Obsessing
Your obsession with the show is at an all-time high, but with nothing left to watch, you must resort to reading fan theories and re-watching the best parts of the show.
10. Hope
Eventually, though, you realize you must move on. So, with fear in your eyes and a trembling hand, you log onto your favorite streaming service in search of a new show. Eventually, a new show is found and while it may never be as good as the last one, you take a brave step into the unknown.
11. And it starts all over...
The cycle of binge-watching is never ending.
Binge watching is a roller coaster of emotions. If you must set down this road of 11 stages, do so bravely!
