That One Summer Vacation I'll Never Forget

I had survived four weeks of summer camp away from my family. My reward? My mom and dad surprised me with a week long vacation in a little "Heaven on Earth." It definitely put New England at the top of my list of favorite places to visit.

I was beyond excited. When we got settled in our cabin and I had taken a shower in a real shower, we walked out to the lake. It was amazing and breathtaking. Just like at my camp, there was a dock with two speedboats for water-skiing, knee-boarding, wake-boarding, or tubing. The water was like glass. The resort was enormous!

In the evenings, I would go to the kid's camp they had where they served us dinner and let us play on the big playground behind the lodge. Sometimes, we went in the big red-hall where we could play ping pong, basketball, pool, and video games. It was the first time I got to see a TV in about a month. While I was in this program, my parents would get to go to dinner alone.

Almost everyday we were there, I went swimming in the lake. However, we had to be super safe because there was a big rock right off the beach where leeches liked to live and climb. If you swam over to the dock where the boats were, there were sometimes electric eels that swam around. I swam right next to one without even noticing, until my mom told me. I still have the heebie-jeebies from it. We also took advantage of all the water sports. My mom and dad would water-ski and I would knee-board and go tubing. It was amazing.

One of the days, we went farther into the resort and found an outside dining area where they served breakfast everyday. They made the most delicious blueberry pancakes. We were in Maine after all! After the best breakfast I had ever had in my entire life, my parents rented a speed boat for the day. We took it out and explored what felt like the entire lake. A tube came with the boat, so I jumped at the chance and my parents towed the tube around and around and around until I was water-logged.

A year or two after this vacation, we went back and celebrated my twelfth birthday with some family friends. I wanted to live there. I was never bored, and if I had the chance, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

If you are looking for an amazing, relaxing place to vacation, Migis Lodge in Casco, Maine is the place to go!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
