The Trials And Tribulations Of Thanksgiving
Danielle Roberson

Thanksgiving break is quickly approaching and it's on everyone's mind. As we are finishing up our midterms and starting to focus on when our next break from school is, we think about Thanksgiving. Most schools get an entire week off of school for Thanksgiving so it's the perfect time to go home to celebrate with your family. For some, this is their first time going home since August and for others, this could be their tenth time. Either way, everyone is usually excited and looking forward to this week-long break. However, there are definitely some pros and cons to going home for an entire week.

Going home for Thanksgiving can be a very emotional and heartwarming experience. You finally get to see your family and spend quality time with them, and you get to relax and enjoy an entire week off of school with no responsibilities or worries to stress about. During this break, you finally get to sleep in your big comfy bed that you've missed so much. For most people, your mom will do your laundry because she's missed being able to do it for you. Most of all, you finally get to enjoy the wonderful home-cooked meals that your parents are so good at making.

Unfortunately, going home for break is very inconvenient for some people and has more negatives than positives. Depending on where you live, you have to find a ride home or pay for a plane ticket. Either way, it costs money to come back home. On top of that, you have to figure out what you need to bring back with you, pack it all, and fit it into your car or suitcase.

When you come home you lose most of your privacy because your family hasn't seen you in a while and they want to spend every moment with you. For those of you that like sports, you have to miss one of the football games for your school and you miss out on tailgating for that weekend. After this whole week of freedom, you have to come back to studying for your finals which is never fun.

Regardless of how many pros and cons you have Thanksgiving is a chance for all of us to go home for a break. It is also a chance for everyone to hopefully enjoy some really good food and eat too much.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
