A Thank You To My First Roomie

Dear Freshmen Roommate,

Thank you for being there through all my firsts. We left for our first day together. We ate in the dining halls together for the first time. We somehow managed to figure out the bus system together and get back to our room. You were my first friend. Thank you for making the transition as easy as it could be. Coming into college from high school was a rude awakening.

In the beginning, there were days where we were happy, and there were also days where we cried together on the futon wondering why we made the decision to come to college. Rain or shine, we were doing it together.

Thank you for the late night talks about nonsense or watching youtube videos for hours on end. I don't know about everyone else, but our particular favorites are teenagers' makeup tutorials. Thank you for watching Netflix with me instead of going out some nights. Thank you for coming and going quietly when I was sleeping, and I hope I was quiet too.

Thank you for accepting me at all times. Whether I was having a breakdown, being crazy, or failing tests, you were always there to show me the latest tweets to make us laugh until we almost pee ourselves.

Thank you for taking the trash when I continued to pile things on top of the mountain that was already there.

Thank you for eating with me, not only in the dining halls but also ordering food at 3 a.m.

Thank you for listening to my countless rants about god knows what.

Thank you for being a heavy sleeper and not waking up to my alarms for my 8 a.m., even when you have to set 10 in order to wake up.

Thank you for pushing me to do my work when I really didn't want to and being my personal tutor that I very much needed (@uga chem dept).

Thank you for not judging me on my daily appearance, but judging others for theirs.

Thank you for eating just as much as I do and not making me feel fat.

Thank you for all the 'good luck' and 'drive safely' texts.

Thank you for having from where I'm from because the adventures can keep happening.

Thank you for being the best. I love you!

Here's to a great year in 542!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
