We have a lot to be thankful for.

Dear University,

Thank you for forcing me out of my bubble and throwing me into the world to grow and experience life, because of you I have met people from all over the world and learned things I never thought I would know.

Thank you for the nights I can't remember with the people I will never forget. This is college, it is the time of our lives. You'll never have a good story from the nights you stayed in. We are young and if we don’t go out and do wild things now, we’ll have nothing to smile about when we’re old.

Thank you for my best friends, because of you I now have my people for life. The ones who will be standing next to me at the alter in the bridesmaid dress at my wedding and the ones who my kids will call “aunt” and “uncle.” The friends who are the bad influences on me but I always end up thanking later for the amazing time.

Thank you for forcing me to be responsible. There is no mommy and daddy in college, therefor we are forced to grow up and do things on our own. I am no longer scared to go to the doctor’s office alone or call to make an appointment at the dentist. Living on our own forces us to keep our room clean and do things for our self.

But thank you for not completely throwing me into the adult world. College is weird, you have to be responsible enough to live on your own but then again you aren’t waking up every day to go to a nine to five job and come home to pay the bills. We get that little taste of freedom without completely having to adult every day.

Thank you for the best years of my life. They are not kidding when they say your college years are the best years of your life. It doesn’t get better than this. Time flies especially in college, so it’s important we take in ever second as though it is our last because before you know it we’re walking across the stage at graduation and have to say goodbye to the best times we’ve ever had.

And finally, thank you for giving me a place that is so hard to leave for the summer, but yet so amazing to come back to.

Sincerely,

A very appreciative student

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
