I am the oldest of four, a role that I was not necessarily fond of as a child. One sister is 14 months younger, and the other is nearly four years younger than me. I learned at young age that being the oldest means having to be independent. I can't remember a time when I was able to sit in the stroller, even though my 6-year-old sister tried to after our brother was born. I realized that I would have to be a role model and that going through life's lessons, there would be a learning curve for everyone involved. Even though it hasn't always been easy, it has been worth it. Here is a thank you letter to my sisters.
Thank you for always pushing me to do my best. After all playing basketball, we have always been there to push each other. At practice you never made it easy, you showed me that anything worth having is worth working for.
Thank you for (almost) never getting sick of me hanging around. Even after driving to school together, seeing each other in between classes and practicing together, you would still allow me to lay in bed with you at night. You weren't always happy about it, but when I refused to leave, you just let it be.
Thank you for allowing me to play music you hate during car rides. I know Chance The Rapper is an acquired taste and most girls our age don't listen to Biggie, but thanks for letting me enjoy the songs I love while we drive to the mall. You look at me like I have two heads as I awfully attempt to rap to 90's music, but it's always a good laugh.
Thank you for giving me thick skin. People say growing up with brothers is brutal, but these people didn't have to grow up with your constant jokes. They are about anything from my tendency to ask 1,000 questions or my constant falling on and off the basketball court. I learned that laughing at yourself is the best therapy there is.
Thank you for always giving me someone to hang out with on the weekends. When I was having problems with my friends, you allowed me to come in with open arms. Your friends have become mine and are some of the best people I know. You invite me to go out with you and you always give something to do when I come home from college.
Thank you for always giving me laugh when I need it. It may be a Miranda Sings video on YouTube or a video of yourselves dancing, but you always have me smiling. You must have a sixth sense, because the videos are always sent when they're needed.
My parents gave me best friends for life when they gave me two younger sisters. I am forever thankful for the two of you and I can't wait to see you accomplish all of your dreams.
