Everyone who knows me, knows I’m obsessed with Disney. I know the songs, the movies, the fun facts, and the parks like the back of my hand. I even have a favorite Disney animator and composer (Shout out to Glen Keane and Alan Menken). No matter how old I get, I never seem to grow tired of Disney and am constantly amazed and inspired by everything they do. And even though there have been plenty of haters, I’ve never been apologetic.
There are many reasons why I, as well as others like myself, love Disney. It’s played an enormous role in the lives of children across the world since 1928 with the introduction of Mickey Mouse. Even after the passing of Walt Disney himself, The Disney Company has continued to continue his legacy by creating films that resonate with the children inside all of us.
So thank you, Disney, for showing us...
1. That with hard work and patience, our dreams can come true.
No matter who you are, or where you come from, your dreams are obtainable. It might not always be easy, and it might not be quick, but they are possible as long as you keep telling yourself that they are.
2. To have courage.
This goes hand in hand with hard work and patience. Because sometimes hard work means taking chances when you don’t know what the outcome will be. But living in fear of the unknown is not living at all. If we truly want our wildest dreams to come true, then “We have to have the courage to pursue them."- Walt Disney.
3. It’s important to be ourselves.
You don’t have to be normal. You don’t have to be royalty or a star. You don’t even have to be the average Joe. Who you are is important and you should be proud of that. And you should never doubt your self-worth. Because whether you’re a waitress or the next ruler of the nation, you play a role in this world and that role is important. You just have to recognize that you are and your true potential reveals itself.
4. You should never judge a book by its cover.
Just because someone who looks odd or is different doesn’t mean that you should treat them any differently than you would the president of the United States. Just like you have an important role to play, everyone else does too, you just might not be able to see it by looking at them. Sometimes the people you don’t expect are the most beautiful people you'll ever meet.
5. To have faith.
It doesn’t always have to be religious. Have faith in people, have faith in the future, and most importantly have faith in yourself. Life is uncertain, and we will never be able to predict the future. Rather than live your life cautious about everything, sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and hope for the best.
6. To have trust.
You can’t go through life always on your guard. Sometimes you’re going to have to take a chance and trust that whatever will be, will be. You can't live life worrying about something you have no control over. “If you’ve done the best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.” ~Walt Disney.
7. And maybe a little bit of Pixie Dust.
I mean, it couldn’t hurt.
