Textbooks suck.
We all have experienced one of the worst purchases that college students have to make, when you see the crazy amount for even just one book, and it continues to add up because you have three other books waiting to be checked out. I remember my first semester of college and spending $125 dollars on one single book, what makes this even worse is the fact that I only opened that book once throughout the whole semester; from that moment on I decided to never do that again. Since then, I have refused to purchase anymore textbooks but instead found alternate ways, here I will list some tips and tricks that I have used and have saved me from spending my cash.
1. Talk to your professor.
The most obvious one is to simply talk to your professor, first off they love to talk and connect with their students. Without connecting they feel that they might as well be lecturing to a wall. We all come from different paths in life, and professors love to talk and connect with their students. Aside from that they can help by letting you borrow their textbook or they may even have an older version that they will lend to you. If not they will give you tips on where to find the textbook for a more affordable price than at the school bookstore.
2. The Library.
Another one that is overlooked, is that the majority of professors place a copy of the textbook at the library for students to use. In most cases this is required by the school, but there are out-liars to this. But check the library, for most people go and study at the library anyways, so why not save yourself some cash and use the book at the library and study there.
3. Online.
The thing about this one is it may take some work and patience, but it will pay off in the end. You can search for PDF’s and other places that will have the books you need and are available for free. The other thing about this is if you search at your school's library they have access to a lot of things that you can read online for free, so while you may find your textbook at home you may not be able to read it but instead can read it at the school library.
These are just a few tips and tricks that I have used and have saved me a lot of cash. Depending on your major these tips will save you guys some hard earned cash as well. Now please take note that doing it this way will not be easy, to be honest it’ll be hard depending on how you learn. It will require discipline, and the ability to skim (mostly if you are tired of reading and just want to be done), but it is worth it in the end. While this will be hard for some, it will be easy for others especially those that are able to write papers pretty easily.
