It's obvious that your TV addiction has gone to a whole new level of obsession. It is time for an intervention. You waste countless hours in front of the TV, and it is draining time away from more important things. We both know that you're only trying to fill a void, but you have to find another solution.
The appeal of television shows is meant to draw viewers in, but you seem to be even more susceptible to the tricks that TV producers play. Think back to your childhood and the endless hours spent watching Cartoon Network and SpongeBob. Perhaps the reason why television shows are so addictive is because they offer an alternate universe where you can live another life; something impossible, something unreachable, or just something you could never have.
Think about all of the problems that watching too much television is causing you. Your schedule is all booked on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. All of your friends know that nothing is going to get you off the couch between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, even if it meant saving them from a painful death. It's never a good idea to put off important things to watch TV, but when you put off doing fun things, like going to parties to watch TV, you have a serious problem.
Not only are the effects of television addiction hurting you socially, but financially too. Paying about $100 more than you need to every month to cover all the channels you watch is taking big bites out of your hot rod fund. Your mom is convinced that you would sell your kidneys on the black market to pay the dish bill, but she's always over reacting right? Nope, it would surprise no one that you would take a bullet (no place lethal of course) for your cable connection. Selling a kidney isn't off the table either.
The thought must have come into your head that perhaps the reason why you've been slacking lately in school is because you're slowly slipping into old habits from senior year of high school. Think about it, you never really watched TV until senior year, mostly because you had too much work to do during the week. Recall how many times you've skipped homework to watch TV. It's that mindset of thinking that you have something better to do than to do homework (and you really don't) that has left your butt imprint on the family sofa. Realizing that you are taking television watching too seriously might help you chose more important things over your shows.
It's difficult to commute to school, do homework, and maintain a job. Television is only meant to be a temporary escape. Making time by finishing homework early is not always a good idea because you might actually rush through homework and not do a good job, or if you're as motivated as I am, you might skip it all together for the TV show. Maybe the solution is to watch three shows during the week and save the rest for the weekend instead of watching six shows during the week. That way, you don't have to make time to watch the shows during the week because you are bored during the weekend and can definitely find time to watch the leftover shows.
Another solution could be to consolidate your shows into one or two channels. This way you can take other channels out of the dish package and just pay for what you need. The extra money could be invested in books or other forms of entertainment that are more helpful to you in the long run. Or maybe put into services like Netflix that allow you to watch shows and movies anytime so that you have no commitments to the show's airtime.
In the long run, a television addiction is just about as dangerous as any other type of addiction. Managing a television addiction can be as difficult as taming Miley Cyrus's tongue, but it has to be done. Remember that an ideal solution would be to stick with only a select few shows on the same channel. This way you can conserve time and save your wallet a trip to the hospital. If nothing else works, watching reality show trash like Kim and Khloe Take Miami will definitely turn you off to the idea of watching television.
