In a world where connectivity is easy as a like, share, or favorite, it's incredible how disconnected we are from each other. I'm guilty of the same social crime, however, this doesn't permit me to disregard how serious this is. We all need to open our eyes, let the phone go, and pick up our heads to the people around us. It's costing a toll on our lives that may not seem as important at a first glance but all this technology is diminishing the true experiences. Here me out.
We are so concerned about who favorites our tweets that we are so blind to the reality of the world that is going on around us. I regularly have dinner with my family because they are here in the now, in reality, tangible. However, even when enjoying the time we have, we're handcuffed and imprisoned to our phones. Signing a contract with AT&T or Verizon is like accepting a criminal sentence – forced to carry out that sentence in virtual captivity where Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are the wardens. We need to be conscious and enjoy the world around us before we miss it on the passing reality. They say when you text and drive you're blind to 100 ft. every time you look down at your phone. Well, what if I told you that you miss out on 100 seconds every time you click the home button to awaken your handcuffs. Imagine how many times we all do that and compare that to everything we miss.
We are all changing. Our confidence is not based on human connections and compliments rather through the frequency of favorites and shares that alarm your phone and disconnect you for that 100 seconds. Posts now define you. We judge each other by the summary of they're Instagram posts. We find it more effective to preach and whine on Twitter rather than go out and make the change we all want to see. It's frightening and aggravating to see the world fall down this dangerous hill but it's not too late to get back on our feet. Disconnect from our phones and wake up to the precious reality that can only be experienced once. We can always go back to look at that post, it's been made very clear that once on the internet, it can never be erased so I challenge you to pick your head up and enjoy the now and re-visit the online world later. Don't miss out before it's too late!
