Tech Week As Told By Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
The Independent

Tech week. I’m pretty sure hearing those two words alone is enough to make me tired. Any student who has had to deal with final papers, exams, classes, work, and being in the theatre during any free time you have, knows what a struggle it is to make it through the week. Going through tech week recently myself brought a lot of days where I was so tired that I was actually loopy and partially incoherent for most of the hours that I was awake. Upon coming home from rehearsals and finishing whatever homework I had to work on that night, I’d often watch a couple episodes of one of my favorite shows ever, the Netflix Original Series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. My brain used this time to decompress from the stress of the day it just went though. As I laid there in my hell week induced haze, I began to think about how relatable this show was to how I was feeling in the exact moment. Kimmy keeps it real no matter what and for those of us who have been through tech week, you know just how real it can get. So, without further ado, here are just a few aspects of tech week, as told by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

1. When you realize that you're not prepared for anything but you're too tired to actually do anything about it

2. When you finally get home from full dress rehearsal and think about the fact that you have class in the morning

3. When someone asks to take a picture with you and you know that you're actually dead inside

4. When you're working on the crew and over-tired actors or dancers start snapping at you

5. When you get home from another late night at the theatre, look through your kitchen and realize there is nothing that could actually provide you with nutrients

6. When someone asks you to do literally anything at any time during tech week

7. When someone tells you that you're too young to not have the energy to get through tech week

8. When you're struggling to keep yourself awake at work

9. When your alarm goes off in the morning after you spent the whole night before in the theatre

10. When you're waiting for your call for what seems like forever, end up falling asleep in the theatre and someone tries to wake you up

11. When it's finally opening night and you know that tech week has officially ended

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
