You heard it right, Halloween is just right around the corner. And by the amount of clown sightings, haunted house flyers, and candy corn that just seems to fall in our hands, I can say most of us are ready. Halloween is the holiday that starts off the holiday seasons, so this next Monday…
Wait, Halloween is on a Monday this year? Well that changes everything.
Earlier this week I took a poll on twitter (pictured above) gathering some information on what some college students plan on doing for Halloween since it seems to interfere with everything school related. The four options were,
- A) Gettin’ lit (sorry but this is a college campus)
- B) Chapter
- C) Studying
- D) They hate Halloween
Knowing the partying reputation of Texas Tech, no one should be surprised that choice “A” was the winner, but not by the amount you all may assume. “Gettin’ lit” only won by 7%, followed by choice “B”. This also should come at no surprise considering how big Texas Tech Greek is on campus, and though most may love Halloween, it is a Monday, and therefore chapter will still happen regardless of the holiday. If there is school, there is chapter, and that is a fact that all sorority/fraternity souls have come at peace with. The bright side to this is everyone knows that come Monday, anyone can look out onto Greek Circle and know full well that all of the sororities will we having a Halloween themed chapter, so although they may not be out with their friends showing off their costume (yet), at least it will be put to use.
Well what about the other 35%?
The other 35% will probably not have as of an exhilarating Halloween as others. 18% of the people tested hate Halloween, and yes this is a real thing. Maybe it is the clowns, maybe it is the fear of getting sick on candy, or maybe they just don’t see the point; Regardless, not only with this 18% dread Halloween, it also doesn’t help that it is on the worst day of the week.. Monday.
And finally the last 17%, the percentage I have the upmost respect for.
Although at times I feel like Halloween was made for college students to get dressed up and make a fool of themselves, 17% of this poll decided to beat the stereotype and put their studies first. These are the people that will be getting into medical school, becoming lawyers, and be running our country one day (if Hilary doesn’t destroy it first). This 17% is the real deal, because anything that falls within school days will always come second to their studies. So to this 17%, thank you for striving for honor and making our school look how it should.
So Halloween is on a Monday. Bummer. But at Texas Tech, people will always find a way to make the saddest things fun.
Flooding on campus? Let's start wake boarding.
“There’s nothing in Lubbock besides football and tortillas."
Oh okay, let’s start-throwing tortillas at games.
Need a little uplifting for your day? Okay well someone put soap in the fountain and now it’s pouring out bubbles.
Texas Tech is a school of innovators. It doesn’t matter if our football team loses, or if a holiday is on a Monday, no matter the obstacle, Texas Tech students will find a way to discover joy with it.
Happy Halloween, and Wreck Em Tech.
