#TeamTrees Works to Fight Climate Change

Recently, social media has been buzzing over the spur of donations made to teamtrees.org that began with the famous Greenville YouTuber known as "Mr. Beast," or Jimmy Donaldson.

After hitting 20,000,000 followers, Donaldson decided he wanted to do something special for his fans so he asked what he should do to celebrate and after being spammed by fans challenging him to plant 20 million trees, he decided to make it his goal to raise enough money to do so through #teamtrees. (https://teamtrees.org/.)

Team Trees is an organization that converts every dollar donation made to the organization into the planting of one tree. Donaldson – known to be a philanthropist for giving away thousands of dollars to the homeless or leaving extremely generous tips at restaurants – became number one on the TeamTrees donations list after making a donation of $100,000 to teamtrees.org. Along with this, he encouraged his fans and other YouTubers to spread the word and help raise money for the organization through this project.

A follow-up donation of $100,001, from Norwegian DJ Alan Walker, was made to bump himself to the top of the list; that is until Mr. Beast responded back with a $100,002 donation. Not long after their donation battle, technology entrepreneur and CEO of SpaceX blew them both out of the water with a $1,000,000 donation that received a lot of media attention and raised awareness surrounding the issue.

Other donations made by less popular media faces, who hadn't received a lot of media attention, were also made by individuals such as the CEO of Shopify – Tobi Lütke – who'd donated $1,000,001 to top Elon Musk; as well as YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki with a $200,000 donation.

As of this past October 31st, YouTubers had raised enough money to plant around 10,600,000 trees.

So, now that money's been acquired, what action will be taken to turn this dream into reality?

To fulfill their pledge to plant 20 million trees, Mr. Beast, The Arbor Day Foundation, and other YouTubers rolled up their sleeves and got to work themselves – but only managed to plant about 300 trees after day 1. Realizing this wouldn't be enough to accomplish their goal, they gathered more volunteers to get them in on the action.

More innovative courses of action are being taken into consideration as well to reach the goal quicker, such as the use of drones to lay seed.

Currently, TeamTrees has raised almost $13,000,000. If you want to join the cause and help TeamTrees reach their goal of planting 20,000,000 trees by 2020, you can learn more and see how to donate at https://teamtrees.org/.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
