After Rewatching 'Twilight,' I'm Definitely Team Jacob

Ten years later and I finally see why Jacob would be a better significant other.

My best friend and I met in 7th grade when we realized we were both reading Twilight at the same time while sitting next to each other in History class. We read all four books together and when I say we were hardcore Team Edward.

I mean we used to stare at a poster of Robert Pattinson from the movie Eclipse for hours just talking about how perfect Edward was in every way. Since I finished the series, I haven't thought much about Twilight, but in the wake of its 10 year anniversary my best friend and I decided to rewatch all the movies, and in my old age of 22, my thoughts on the infamous love triangle have definitely changed.

Isabella Swan, in my humble opinion, has always been an idiot. The thing that has changed for me is the lifelong mystery of who is better for her (or more importantly who would I choose), Jacob or Edward? While 12-year-old me was super thirsty for mysterious, broody, cold shoulder Edward, my experiences with boys in the last 10 years have proven to me that "ain't nobody got time for that."

Bella loves the fact that Edward will do anything to protect her, but what we don't talk about is the fact that he's a total flake. As soon as things get complicated Edward gets just up and leaves her? Bella is forced to run to Jacob to make her feel better, proving that he is better for her. Not only is he there for her, but he's comforting her through her breakup with another boy.

We also never discuss the fact that Bella is literally in danger every second she is with Edward. Sure, she may be his "personal brand of heroin," but when getting a paper cut means you may be eaten alive by your boyfriend, I think it may be time to re-evaluate. Jacob, on the other hand, is a living breathing human with blood and a heartbeat who can take care of you when you get hurt.

Last, but not least, I would like to discuss the fact that Edward is a drama queen with not one ounce of humor in his 107-year-old body. Bella can't even be sarcastic without hurting his feelings, and that my friends should really be the last straw. Who wants to be with someone that you can't joke around with? Jacob is not only her best friend, but someone Bella is so comfortable around it's "as easy as breathing."

Looking back at these characters, it's so clear to me how damaging the idea of loving Edward can be. Maybe Bella likes it, but constantly being around someone as controlling, jealous, moody, and isolating as Edward can drain the fun out of what should be a loving safe space. While I wish it wasn't true, it's just so obvious that Jacob is the healthier choice, and would be way more fulfilling.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
