Taylor Swift consumed most of my childhood. Her music was always on, her posters covered my room and she was who I looked up to. I will never forget in sixth grade when I was allowed to bring two friends to her Speak Now concert for my birthday. I surprised my two best friends and told them during art class and we all started crying because we were so excited to finally see T-Swifty live. Her and her music has meant a lot to me over the years, and although everyone has their own opinion about her, she will always be in my heart. Especially because of these eight songs that got most of us through middle school.
1. "Our Song"
The song you danced around to when you had your first crush that gave you butterflies inside – "Our song is the way you laugh, the first date man I didn't kiss her when I should have."
2. "Picture to Burn"
Whether you sang this song about a boy or a friend, it was definitely a great song to listen to in order to move on and say goodbye to them because they weren't a loss – "as far as I'm concerned you're just another picture to burn."
3. "Fifteen"
Taylor mentions being fifteen in your freshman year and you couldn't wait until you were finally fifteen so you could really relate to this song. It reminds you that your little classroom crush probably isn't the one you're going to love forever – "cause when your fifteen, and somebody tells you they love you, you're gonna believe them."
4. "You Belong With Me"
This song gave us all hope when the boy we were in love with was already dating the popular girl in the grade – "dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time."
5. "Sparks Fly"
The song that was a lyrical description of getting butterflies in your stomach and finding someone who fills your heart with happiness. This song set the "relationship goal" of kissing in the rain – "meet me in the pouring rain, kiss me on the sidewalk, take away the pain."
6. "Fearless"
Another song describing the happiness you can get from young love. And another song leading girls to want to have that picture-perfect moment in the rain – "I don't know why but with you I'd dance, in a storm in my best dress fearless"
7. "Mean"
Most of us were bullied or talked about by mean girls in middle school so instead of crying in bed when you got home from a bad day you just belted this song at the top of your lungs and somehow you always felt better – "someday I'll be living in a big old city and all you're ever going to be is mean"
