Taylor Swift has taken this generation by storm - at least in the music world. She is a country-pop artist that is known for her love songs.
Once America's country sweetheart, her new edge has people asking - what happened to the old Taylor? What is with her new sound? Who's this new guy she is with? Who is this new song about and what was with her outfit? What is up with her voice? The media follows closely.
At least among my friends, she is either liked or she isn't. There isn't much in between. I do find it annoying that the majority of her songs regard relationships with guys, but she does portray a great sense of vulnerability in them. Vulnerability is a trait that is becoming more and more rare in today's culture, so I can definitely give Taylor props for this.
Taylor Swift's songs are catchy, to say the least. Whenever I hear one on the radio, I cannot help but start singing along. I have never been to one of her concerts, but I have heard rave reviews on them. She definitely knows how to capture and hold an audience's attention.
I personally prefer her older songs. To be honest, I have not kept up with her newer albums as much. When she was first starting out, her songs were a lot more wholesome and had less of a bite to them. It almost sounded like she was reading a diary entry. Heartbreak was still mentioned for sure, but the majority of her songs resembled a lot more innocence.
Experiences and life events change a person as they get older. Swift is not the same artist or person she was when she first signed her record deal. Her sound is going to change as a result. The reason why I prefer a lot of her older songs is because they were unique. She was vulnerable without being rash, which is what a lot of music today tends to resemble. It was just a different sound, and I like it.
I will admit that I have wondered how she has not gotten burned out over writing about her love life. I know I would. I also find it humorous that she keeps going on dates even after all this time. Any guy who goes on a date with her should know that no matter how it ends up, a song is going to be written. For some that might be a turnoff, but not so much for others.
It would be interesting if she recorded an album that wasn't about dating. If she was as vulnerable in her music about other things in her life, then she might have a larger fan base (not that she really needs that).
Overall, Taylor Swift appears to be a rather interesting person. She definitely appreciates her fans, but I personally am not as boy crazy as she is. I have a hard time understanding why one would want to broadcast that much of an area of life that I personally keep private. I don't care how much money I would make from it, because I do not like adding unnecessary attention to my dating life. It has worked for her. Props.
