Tattoos In Modern Christianity

So, let's talk about tattoos. Tattoos have become a very popular way for people to express themselves in modern day society. We see a variety of different tattoos on a daily basis. They're cool. They're in. But what exactly does the church have to say about them?

The argument most Christians make is in Leviticus chapter 19, verse 28. This verse says, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord."

In the book of Leviticus, The Lord is setting out the rules and regulations for the people of Israel at that time. There are so many in that book that if we were to follow them all still today, our whole lives would be different. With that being said, Why is it okay to enforce only one but not the others?

If we are not to alter our bodies, then how are piercings and tanning okay but tattoos not?

Here's how I feel on the subject; Do what makes YOU happy. Yes, I am a Christian and I am very active in the church. Yes, I ALSO have a tattoo.

I got my first tattoo almost two weeks ago. And let me just tell you, people were not happy. I felt judged, ridiculed, and sinful. A friend of mine literally asked me if I still had Jesus. I probably wouldn't have gotten a tattoo that says "Have Faith" if I didn't, right?

But does God hate me for having a tattoo? My answer is, I don't think so. I don't think that my God is going to be mad at me for having one measly tattoo. I mean, I've done worse. And I will probably continue to do worse as I grow older. But that doesn't mean I am going to Hell just because I inked my skin.

If you're anything like me, you want your tattoo to have meaning. So who are we to judge someone for something that means something to them?

I got my tattoo to remind me to always Have Faith. To Have Faith when this world gets too crazy. To Have Faith when I'm crying so bad it hurts and I just don't understand why. To remind me to Have Faith when I don't want to live this life anymore and I don't see the future and potential that lies ahead of me. And to just Have Faith that God will work it all out.

I love my tattoo and I do not regret it at all. Every time I look at it, I smile at my constant reminder. My reminder that will go with me to the grave. And I'm OK with that.

So let me tell you this as a 18 year-old, tattooed, Christian girl; Just do what makes you happy And serve the Lord in all that you do. He loves you and nothing can stand between you and your King. Not even a silly little tattoo.

If you're a Christian and you're battling the decision on whether or not to get a tattoo, or maybe you feel bad because you got a tattoo, I highly suggest you watch this video on YouTube called "Are Tattoos Sinful? Jefferson Bethke" My mom sent it to me the night I got mine and It helped me out a ton.

So there you have it! Happy tatting to you all!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
