10 Thoughts Every Student Has Had During Online Classes

Online classes and virtual reality in general have been the staple of 2020. One day in March, everything shut down and we all had to learn how to work, teach, study, do therapy, and take classes remotely without much preparation. So, it's been a roller-coaster experience, and definitely not what we expected.

1. "If the lecture is recorded, do I really need to attend the Zoom meeting?"

To sleep in, or to procrastinate. Decisions, decisions....

2. "I wonder what sales I can find while online shopping."

Ever had that moment where you get bored in class and start online shopping in another browser? Because same.

3. "Do I really need to keep my camera on?"

If I keep my camera on, that means I have to look like I'm interested, so I'll pass.

4. "Oh no, another person forgot to mute themselves."

Cue the professor asking the class to mute themselves, even though they can mute everyone as the host. Not that hard.

5. "When would be a good time to unmute without interrupting someone?"

Asking questions in class is awkward, especially when you accidentally interrupt someone. Sorry guys, I promise I'm not purposely cutting you off.

6. "Do I really need to study if the quiz is open book?"

The answer is no.

7. "I hope this exam is not proctored."

I relied HEAVILY on my notes in stats class so getting an email about upcoming exams was always nerve-wracking, because I could not survive them without my resources.

8. "Oh look, another technical issue."

We love it when the professor has to end class early because their laptop keeps kicking them off Zoom.

9. "Should I get a head start on the next module?"

The struggle of a workaholic is bad when every module is available upon the start of the semester. So many opportunities to work ahead....

10. "Do I bother getting out of bed for my morning class?"

Sleeping in until the very last minute and waking up to immediately log on to Zoom seems like a good idea.

I think we can all relate to these thoughts during Zoom University 2020. Gear up for another round of it next year! Here we go again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
