When I joined my sorority, Delta Nu Zeta, the first local service sorority here at the University of Florida, I always knew I wanted to to be an amazing Big for someone, just like my Big, Lauren, was for me. For those who don't know what Bigs and Littles are, in a sorority, new members are given a Big Sister, or more commonly as her Big, an older member of the sorority, to be her mentor and her guidance in college, and for many girls, her best friend later on in life. Lauren is one of my best friends and one of my closest confidants, and she helped me to find my place in my sorority. The example she set for me gave me guidance on the kind of Big I wanted to be for my own Littles. Never in my wildest dreams though did I ever think I would end up being the Big of 4!
Last spring, during my first initiated semester as a sister, I decided I would open up my heart to an amazing Little, because I was ready to help guide someone who was younger than me in her college life, and ultimately, hopefully, find her place in the world and herself in the process. In a funny turn of events, I decided at the very last second that if need be, I would take a set of two littles, referred to as a set of "twins" if need be, and wouldn't you know, along came Christina and Nora. Christina and Nora are two of the most amazingly beautiful and kindhearted women I have ever met, and I couldn't have lucked out any more than by having them choose me to be their Big.
This fall, I met my newest set of twins, Kat and Emma, and I fell in love with them just as fast and hard as I did Christina and Nora. From the moment I met both of them, they contained an energy and a sense of uniqueness that I knew I couldn't and wouldn't find anywhere else. I wanted to be their Big as much as I had wanted to be a great Big for Nora and Christina. And they chose me to be their Big and I couldn't be more happy about it!
I love each of my Littles in a different way, and I would take each of you a million times over!
Christina: What can I say, other than I am so proud of who you are and who you are becoming in this crazy world. You have overcome so many obstacles at such a young age, and I couldn't be prouder of what you are accomplishing in your time here. Your love for helping those with disabilities is so pure and amazing, and I can not speak more highly of you!
Nora: You were my surprise Little. While we got thrown together by fate (or Cece if you will), I have absolutely adored becoming your Big and welcoming you into my family. During my short time of knowing you, I have watched you blossom into the woman you are today. You have become more confident and sure of yourself and everything you want to accomplish in life, and I am so proud of you!
Emma: You are so unapologetically yourself, and I couldn't love you more for it. From your sense of style and your taste of music, to how you view the world around you, you are amazing and I love every part of who you are. When I told you I remembered you from work, it wasn't just because you were a regular. It was because you seemed so cool and sure of yourself, and I knew I needed a friend like you in my life, and could only hope to be your Big as well!
Kat: From the moment I met you, you have been nothing but a literal ray of sunshine. Everything you do brings joy to those around you, and you have a passion for spreading love to those around you. Your passion for Hearoes and for your future career is contagious, and it makes those around you want to get involved as well. You have such a unique personality, and you brighten my life so much!
I love each and every one of you so much, and I couldn't imagine my time here at UF without you.
Love you long time,
XOXO Biggie
