I say this about every year, but I can't believe how fast 2018 came and went. In just a few days, we will be saying goodbye to 2018 and hello to 2019. I'm sure we're all looking forward to the new year to see what it will bring us. Here are five things that we should leave behind in 2018 because no one needs negativity in their life, and five things that we should bring with us into 2019 to make it the best year yet.

1. Behind in 2018: Ghosting

https://giphy.com/gifs/iliza-iliza-shlesinger-xUA7bh4ECTXr2TTDMc

Ghosting needs to stop. It's not cool. Just because you can ghost someone doesn't mean you should. No one likes it when they are ghosted. So, if you wouldn't like it, don't do it to others. If you aren't interested in someone, tell them the right way, and the right way would be not ghosting them.

2. Behind in 2018: Being uninformed

https://giphy.com/gifs/dccomics-batman-dc-comics-xTiTnolgxvZcJwdq4E

We have the internet at our fingertips. It's a lot easier to be informed nowadays by a lot of things. Don't check out one site either, look at multiple to get the facts you need and then make your assessment.

3. Behind in 2018: Saying yes to things you don't want to do

https://giphy.com/gifs/hulu-the-mary-tyler-moore-show-26uf2pAocjgYpDQsg

It took me a long time to do this one myself, but I'm a people pleaser. But after a while, I got sick of always saying yes to things, especially things I didn't want to do. Always remember, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. You don't always have to say yes to plans. It will eventually burn you out.

4. Behind in 2018: Hate

All the hate has to go. Racism and sexism have no place in our society. Hate will never solve anything and only fuels the fire. We may have our differences, but at the end of the day, we're all human beings.

5. Behind in 2018: The wage gap

https://giphy.com/gifs/yes-oscars-all-of-this-T11DvWThJuwgw/

The wage gap has narrowed throughout the years. Now, it's around 80 cents to the dollar. Even though it's more narrow than it was a few decades ago, we still have some work to do when it comes to closing the gap. Together, we can work in 2019 to get the wage gap closed. If two people are doing the same job with the same qualifications/experience, they should be getting paid the same salary despite their gender or race.

Bonus: Tide Pod Challenge

The Tide Pod Challenge made me scratch my head. This is a challenge that definitely should be left in 2018. Tide Pods are used to clean your clothes, not to be eaten as a joke. It's not worth it, trust me.

1. Hello 2019: Let our voices be heard

https://gfycat.com/gifs/search/for+king+%26+country

In 2018, people let their voices be heard, and I loved it. People want change and to make our world a better place. In 2019, let's keep pushing to make that change happen and making our world better. Our people are divided right now, and I hope that we can come back together as a whole in 2019. We all have our differences, but we shouldn't be so divided about them. There are a lot of problems in this world that we could fix if we could just put aside our views and work together.

2. Hello 2019: More women and people of color

https://giphy.com/gifs/batmanvsuperman-batman-superman-v-26FPMoFGJlJQuwdzO

We're seeing a lot more people of color and women in higher positions and being lead roles on television and in movies. I anticipate seeing more people of color and women making history.

3. Hello 2019: People coming together

https://religionnews.com/2016/10/05/science-and-the-bible-can-help-ease-racial-tensions/

Our society is split up, but in horrible situations and events, we come together. Hopefully, there are fewer tragedies in 2019, but if there is one, let's keep coming together and put our contrasts aside.

4. Hello 2019: memes

https://giphy.com/gifs/surprised-pikachu-3kzJvEciJa94SMW3hN

Memes are great, and should always be a thing. They bring out people's creativity and funniness. Who doesn't love a good meme?

5. Hello 2019: Polaroids

https://giphy.com/gifs/surprised-pikachu-3kzJvEciJa94SMW3hN

I have a Polaroid camera, and I love it. Polaroid cameras should come with us into 2019 and capture all the moments we have throughout the year. They are something that should never go out of style.

Bonus: Advancement in science, medicine, and technology

https://giphy.com/gifs/hoverboard-flyboard-fly-board-kv7nNbxVhL7CDRQoPa/

We are learning more about the earth and the universe and medicine keeps getting better as well. I can't wait to see what happens in 2019 with science. Technology can be a good and bad thing, but overall, I am excited to see what we come up with in 2019.

2018 was a big year for many different reasons. There were some good and there was some bad. In 2019, hopefully, we can come together despite our differences, and make the world a better place. Fighting and spreading hate is not going to solve any problems. We are not going to get anywhere if we keep fighting and pointing the fingers at one another. Put down the fingers and guns, and let's unite to make good in this world. Let your voice be heard.

Have fun no matter what age you are. Keep dancing, laughing, making new memories, and cherish old ones. Travel and go on adventures, or do simple things like stay indoors and hang out with the people that you love. No matter what, be yourself, and have fun. There is no one else like you.

Let's go into 2019 with open minds and open hearts. Let's come together, and work to make our world a better place because we only have one life to live, and we only have one earth so let's take care of it.

Happy New Year everyone!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
