To all the coffee lovers on Long Island.
* This article is dedicated to coffee lovers in Long Island, New York *
Coffee is a part of my daily routine and has been since my senior year of high school. Over time, I have grown to love coffee more and have developed an appreciation for different types and stronger blends of coffee. Additionally, this past year I realized that I loved to do my homework in coffee shops. I found that I was most productive in an aesthetic environment that smelled of fresh coffee and was farther away from campus. But now, as I make my way home for the summer, I realized that I still wanted to visit different coffee shops for the same peaceful atmosphere. Here are five coffee shops that you should try if you love coffee as much as I do.

Southdown is one of my favorite coffee spots on Long Island. With another location in Huntington, Southdown has the perfect assortment of coffee, tea, and pastries. Additionally, Southdown is a great place to sit down and do work, read, or relax.

The Witches Brew is not only a cafe but a small, comfy restaurant with a lot of healthy and vegan options. The drink menu includes a list of different coffees, teas, lattes, and other beverages as well as different desserts. There is a cozy candle-lit aesthetic that makes for a great place to get coffee and hang out with friends.

Sweetie Pies on Main is a small bakery in the middle of Cold Spring Harbor. With a cute ambience inside, my favorite thing to order here is their iced coffees, and the menu offers many different flavors, including Snickers, S'mores, or a simple Mocha Iced Coffee.

A good Instagram theme is so important in today's society. You want to keep your followers engaged so they can continue to likes your photos and watch your stories. You have to have photos all look the same so your Instagram can be aesthetically pleasing.
VSCO is a great app that people use to edit their photos. The app will allow you to their users to capture photos in the app and edit them with using preset filters and editing tools. A lot of people do use VSCO to edit their Instagram photos so they can keep it constant for their feed. There are so many different ways to edit photos so you have hundreds of options for filters.
Celebrities know how to make their feeds look good. They have millions of followers looking at their feeds every single day. They have to keep their feed relevant and unique so they can start the new trends for Instagram users all over the world. Unlike your average person, celebrities have a team of photographers and social media experts to help them conquer this.
As a photographer, I wanted to show people how they need to edit their photos for these two celebrity inspired VSCO filters for your next Instagram feed. I will be using a photo of a mannequin that I took so I can show you the photo before and after I edit the photos using the celebrity inspired filters.

Kim Kardashian West is one of the most famous people in the entire world. With over 137 million followers on Instagram, her feed is one that millions of people will try to mimic.
She is known for always doing a changeup in her feed on her Instagram page.
The picture above shows a filter that she had on her feed a few years ago. The filter was made to make photos look like a very blue/greenish Polaroid picture. You can tell that through the grain and fade.

Ariana Grande is one of the most popular female singers in the music business. With over 154 million followers on Instagram, her feed is one that her fans want to try and copy for their own feeds.
She is known for having most of her pictures look exactly like Polaroid pictures just like Kim Kardashian West. The picture above shows a filter that is very similar to one that looks like her feed. You can tell this through the white balance and split tone highlight.
If you are starting to get bored with your feed or just want to start a change up in your feed, I would definitely recommend using one of these filters for your new feed. I think each filter shows a different type of Polaroid-picturesque feed that is easy to do. Your followers will be so impressed with your pictures. Maybe they might try to start mimicking your own feed.
3. It is all about visual aesthetics
In the age of technology, where A-list celebrities got their start online it may seem hard to do the same when comparing yourself to them and their fourteen million fans, but there are a few tips and tricks to help the average social media lover evaluate their platforms for a more professional and aesthetically pleasing look much like their favorite internet celebrities.
When setting out to elevate you Instagram it's very important, to begin with, defining who your audience is and why they follow you. This does not include friends or family, but actually, the people who enjoy your posts. These followers enjoy what you bring to the table and your story for a reason. You and everyone else bring a certain special theme or quality to all your posts, and this can be seen as a niche, which is good because people who enjoy your niche will follow you. The most popular niches include lifestyle, fashion, and beauty. While these are popular, it is better to take one broad niche and make it a little more specific to stand out and gain a following from the uniqueness of your content that can not be found anywhere else, but your specific account.
While there is nothing wrong with posting a head-on selfie every once and then, it can get boring and bland if that is all your Instagram has become. Showing variety is easy just by adding different angles, incorporation full body shots, and even a location change, but the problem is you've come used to taking the same selfie from the same angle in the same location that you're not sure what else is out there, but have no fear there are billions of photos for you to gather inspiration from on the same app, and many more like Pinterest, and Tumblr. These apps have become online databases for beautiful photos and inspiration material like photoshoots, outfits, and even recipes for food blogs. The one rule when using inspiration is, do not copy and give credit where credit is due. Many beauty gurus and influencers have been "canceled" these past months due to them copying other's makeup looks and not giving credit to the original source so take that as a warning.
The best way to not only stand out but to also create an aesthetic for yourself that others do not have is having a consistent and recognizable preset/filter. This is not only to make all your posts look more cohesive as if your Instagram is one big story, but it will also drive attention to your account due to the distinct, and aesthetically pleasing aesthetic. If editing photos and creating your own filter/preset is not your thing there are many sold on Etsy or your favorite Instagram influencer is already selling theirs.
A large part of writing is the stuff that comes before—the not-writing.
Part of being a writer is… you know… actually writing. But I rarely meet a writer who finds it easy to fight against procrastination and focus wholeheartedly on their project without getting distracted. Often, a large part of writing is the stuff that comes before—the not-writing.
I mean, really, can you call yourself a writer if you don't overcome all the obstacles and distractions that stand between you and your work? I don't think so!
You're going to be writing for several hours, and each song has to align with the plot and scenes of each chapter while fitting with the tone of the story. This means that your playlist needs to be carefully selected and rearranged. Several times over, perhaps.
How do you say this word in another language? Or is it possible to jump from the second floor of a building without being injured in the process? You'll have to do some digging on the web to confirm the answers, even if you already have a concise Word document filled with research.
You still haven't figured out a character, so why not make an aesthetic board to figure them out? (Warning: you will fall down the Pinterest hole. Exercise caution.)
Yes, spend all that time talking about your story instead of actually writing it.
Times New Roman makes you feel like you're writing a high school paper, but Comic Sans looks like it is meant for children. Sigh.
It's been a minute since you last checked it. Maybe something has happened since then.
If you're a writer, then listen to me: just start writing. I know it feels impossible at times, especially when the words aren't flowing right and everything around you seems to be a mess. But there is no way you'll be able to tell the story if you don't fill the pages, and even if they're terrible and the first draft is a wreck, at least you have something to work with.
Just keep writing.
So don't fall into the trap of technology!
I've been using social media apps since I was in seventh grade, and if I could go back, I would stop myself entirely.
Don't get me wrong, the connectivity and endless doors opened through social media can be incredible, but this all comes at the price of a generation of people unable to have an old fashioned conversation and are obsessed with their online appearance.
You go out to eat and see a room full of people taking food pics, scrolling past memes, or just staring at their phone because they're bored with the current company. This epidemic has taken away the need for face to face socialization and the ability for people to entertain conversations without taking ten minutes to think of a clever text back.
With the new data surfacing about the possible long term effects of this obsession, people have begun to be more conscious of their phone usage.
Unfortunately, just simply reducing the amount of time spent on technology does not eliminate the adverse effects of seeing everyone's picture perfect lives frozen on a screen in front of them. People have the ability to hop on Twitter or any other platform and are able to see what everyone is doing, where, and who with.
This glamorized capture of peoples lives doesn't always tell the whole story and can stunt the growth of relationships by formulating a superficial basis on which people meet or perceive each other as. For instance, the most dreary unedited Instagram feed can be run by a sun ray of a person who is living their best life, and in contrast, a shiny flawless feed may be hiding a person barely able to conjure up a genuine smile.
Undisputedly, this issue is becoming more substantial as the age of technology continues to blossom and fosters the ability to imprison our society with the hypnotizing promise of progress and contentment. In the future, our society may further develop solutions to manage this, but in the meantime, just be aware of and understand how your social media use can affect you and everyone in your life!
