11 Things Living With 5 Roommates In College Can Teach You
A lot of late night talks and fast food runs.
Always be prepared.
1. The living room will never be clean.
You can spend all day cleaning it, but the minute you walk away for a second, that place is trashed. I don't know how, but it happens.
2. There's always a story to be told.
Somebody always has the latest gossip or tea to be spilled. Stories from the previous night, from what happened in class today, or the awkward encounter at the dining hall.
3. Bachelor Mondays? Never miss it.
Maybe it's another show, but there's always a show that we all must watch together. Popcorn is an added bonus.
4. Random roommates are the best.
RANDOM ROOMMATES FOR THE WIN. One of my roommates was not random, but the other four were. Best decision of my life. Different personalities come together and make a huge crazy mess.
5. Somebody is always down to get food.
Hungry? Just send a text in the group chat. Somebody will always be hungry, or bored enough to go with you.
6. There will be makeshift therapy sessions.
Sad boy hours is real in college. Even with the fun times, there are serious times where you need a serious talk. The amount of times we've cried together is unreal.
7. They tell you the truth.
Is that boy playing you? They'll tell you. That outfit ugly? They'll tell you. You acting insane? They'll tell you. Honesty is the best policy, and roommates will tell you the truth.
8. They will absolutely make fun of you, and vise versa.
Made a questionable decision last night? You will never hear the end of it. We have a white-board in our kitchen and we keep track of how many days it's been since we've cried. One roommate has "has never cried", while I'm stuck at a solid 1-2 days, in a good week.
9. Studying is impossible.
It is absolutely impossible to study in our room. There's always talking, loudness, and even random yelling. All studying must be done in another building, or else nothing will be studied.
10. There will be endless inside jokes.
Everybody will be confused, but saying "five" in a random conversation will send me and my roommates into fits of laughter. You will have so many confusing sayings, but it will always be special to you. I will never be able to see a blue butterfly without thinking of my roommates, for a reason that is very confusing and hard to explain.
11. You find your best friends.
As the end of the year comes around, you realize that you won't be able to walk out of your room into the living room and see your roommates over the summer. You'll be split up, but those group chats and Snapchat groups will still go strong, and there will definitely be some more late night hang-outs next year. Maybe even another year of sleepovers, 2.0. Your roommates will ultimately become your best friends, whether you like it or not.
