We all need the motivation this semester.

The traditional Christmas vacations are over, and it's almost time for a serious case of post-secondary déjà vu. Your classes are scheduled, and you have to prepare for yet another workload and another overwhelming receipt from your college bookstore.

Everyone praises syllabus week, simply known as sylly week, because it's the only week of every semester that requires little to no effort and barely any homework. In reality, it's just a 'sylly' week of annoying icebreakers, reiterated expectations, and hours of anecdotes from your professors. Honestly, that's just as dreadful as your week of midterms.

But, like your midterms, there's a way you can survive this upcoming week. Not just for returning Penn State students, but for students who are new and those who suffer from the melancholy of spring semester.

Lucky for you all, I picked up a few songs that are pretty relatable to the college atmosphere.

There are songs that'll motivate you, songs to use for the sylly week after-party, and songs that will probably make you twerk in the lecture halls for the week.

Okay, actually, please don't do that.

Here's the list:

1. "Runnin" by A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, and Nicki Minaj

Yes, this is basically a boxer-influenced anthem, but don't we all want to fight to the end of every week of college? Use this as your morning motivation.

2. "Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd

Some of us hate college from time to time to the point of rebellion. We despise a few professors and this is the best song to use for anger.

3. "School Spirit" by Kanye West

A bright side: sylly week comes with social activities and events for anyone to check out. If you're a new student this semester, just remember there's plenty of ways to get involved. In Kanye's case, perhaps Greek life.

4. "Pep Rally" by Missy Elliot

Just be true to your school. That's the best way to get through sylly week. Also, another note, Missy Elliott has a lot of songs that are honestly high school and college bangers. This one, in particular, has a lot of influence.

5. "Grown" by Chloe x Halle

If you've watched "Grown-ish," the college-friendly spin-off of ABC's sitcom, "Black-ish," you'll recognize this song. Basically, this song is just the theme for every student in college.

Look at how far you've come. Look at how far you've probably made it through Sylly Week just from listening to this song!

6. Twenty One Pilots - "The Hype"

There's a lot of hardships in college, and not just from Sylly Week. Just know that, with much effort and self-care, you can thrive this semester and thrive through the Sylly Week respectively.

7. Travis Scott - "NO BYSTANDERS"

Travis Scott - NO BYSTANDERS (Audio) www.youtube.com

Let's be honest, I placed this on the playlist for two reasons: college students worship Travis Scott after 'Astroworld' was released and well, it wouldn't be complete without a club banger.

8. Drake - "Nonstop"

Drake - Nonstop www.youtube.com

Same as above. A club banger for your Sylly Week motivation.

9. The Carters - "BOSS"

BOSS www.youtube.com

Basically, the song title is what you'll feel like once you finish the week and prepare for the next 14 weeks of the semester.

10. Cardi B feat. Chance the Rapper - "Best Life"

I was not going to put the Lil Duval version of "Best Life", just know that.

11. Tierra Whack - "Fruit Salad"

Nothing but a quick 1-minute reminder from Whack: take care of your health but also be positive. Don't let anyone ruin your semester start.

12. N.E.R.D. feat. Rihanna - "Lemon"

Confidence is key.

13. Katy Perry - "Pendulum"

If you're a new student, stay yourself this sylly week. It takes a while to adjust to the college atmosphere, but find people you can connect with and work with in your classes and you're golden.

14. August Greene feat. Brandy - "Optimistic"

No further comment.

15. Lizzo - "Water Me"

Whew, chile, the motivation.

16. La Roux - "Bulletproof"

Did you start off on a bad note last semester? This week is your chance to seek redemption.

17. Christina Aguilera - "Fighter"

Christina Aguilera - Fighter (Official Music Video) www.youtube.com

I repeat: redemption.

18. The Killers - "Mr. Brightside"

The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Official Music Video) www.youtube.com

Cliché, you say? I say, this is the Sylly Week party anthem we all need.

19. Rihanna - "Cheers (Drink To That)"

Rihanna - Cheers (Drink To That) www.youtube.com

The second post-Sylly Week anthem we need.

20. Asher Roth - "I Love College"

Asher Roth - I Love College www.youtube.com

Obviously this is the third anthem, and the best way to close out a sylly week playlist. B

Now, the best thing to do is use it for every semester you take in college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
