10 Things I'd Rather Do Than Sit In On Syllabus Week

Can it get any more boring?

We all know syllabus week can be boring as hell, especially when you have a professor who makes it their life mission to keep you as long as they can while talking about their grading policy. If you’re like me and would rather do any of these 10 things than sit in on syllabus week, then you should hit me up so we can be friends.

1. Get back with nature

If you're looking for a great hiking spot, I recommend Radar Hill or a trail at Strouds Run. Although, Radar Hill is closer to campus for those of us who don't have cars and it has a great view of OU's campus. But Strouds Run has a lake where you can rent kayaks and paddleboards.

2. Figure out a plan to make more money

Any college student who says they don't need money for school fees or weekends out are probably lying to you. We're also probably the best people to find creative ways to make some pocket money. Devoting a week to that is, I think, a more productive way to spend syllabus week.

3. Go to the beach

Now that it's winter time with blizzards and snowfall, I think about the beach and warm weather all the time. Walking to class bundled in multiple layers doesn't sound as fun as drinking mimosas on the beach.

4. Get in shape

Obviously, if I'm going to the beach, it only makes sense to be beach ready. This includes the beach body I've never been able to accomplish due to the unbreakable bond between food and myself.

5. Design your next tattoo

I've been putting this off because I have no money. But designing my next tattoo will probably encourage me to start saving up again instead of impulsively buying pizza.

6. Have a "Madea" movie night with my roommates

You're missing out if you never do this. I'd rather be listening to Madea's life advice than listen to my professor talk about their office hours. I strive to be more like Madea (minus the warrants out for her arrest).

7. Shop online

Speaking of no money...

8. Binge watch YouTube videos

I do this as much as I binge watch Netflix. It's really addicting if you're really into a certain artist or vlogger. A much better way to spend my time than a syllabus quiz if you ask me.

9. Create the perfect playlist to dance to

Whether it's rap, R&B, Disney, hip-hop, jazz, disco, or pop. Have a playlist for times you need to dance. I promise you, you can't be any worse than me.

10. Eat, drink, and be merry

The perfect way to start, spend, or end any day: food, drinks, and happiness.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
