Well, well, well, it's finally happened. Christmas came, and I received one of the best gifts that I had longed for, ever since a child. This gift you may ask?
An entire box of milk chocolate coins. Yep, that's right. My childhood dreams don't die, that's a rule I abide by. As long as they don't break any laws, be it laws of matter, gravity, physics or legality.
I just took all the chocolate coins I got and put 'em all in a box but still, y'all get the idea.
So yes, as you can see, I am now a pretty wealthy man — in terms of chocolate coins. Christmas was as it should be for me, full of chocolate, delicious desserts and sweets, in addition to the main food.
Since Hannukah started on Christmas Eve, I also enjoyed giving the Hannukah gelts as a gift, particularly to one of my cousins, who is half Jewish. I've mentioned the many things you can do with 'em.
So this gift was given to me by three different people, each who bought from a different brand, namely Palmers, Fort Knox and Candy City. I'll also specify who gave me which.
1. Palmer
Alright, the person who gave me these Palmer-brand chocolate coins was...ME! Yeah, I bought 'em at my local Target. I didn't just buy 'em all in one day, but throughout multiple days in the Christmas season when I decided to treat myself.
Now, what's really interesting and creative is that they also sold the Hannukah gelts as well, since Hannukah started on Christmas Eve and runs through New Year's Day.
This was a double-whammy plus for me due to my fascination with Hannukah, as well as Jewish and Semitic culture.
Remember when I said I go crazy when the holiday or Christmas season starts, and the stores start filling up their shelves with all sorts of cool sweets? Yeah, well I go even crazier after Christmas Day, why?
That's when the Christmas stuff started going on clearance at the stores — chocolate coins included.
At my local Target, they sold for $1 at regular price; however, with the clearance discount, they were literally only $0.50 for each cute little net bag. Yea...like I was going to miss out on a deal like that.
Each bag contained eight coins. The half-dollars were one and a half inches, the quarters ... I have no idea. As for the gelts, they used the same measurements as the money mimics, they also contained one and a half inch coins as the largest, accompanied by smaller ones.
So the taste? Eh...well, I'll say this: it's not something to eat alone, and best eaten after a meal. For me, it was actually quite too sweet, I mean one coin already had my teeth hurting and had me hurrying for a bottle of water.
2. Fort Knox
My older sister got me this humongous net bag of silver-colored Kennedy half dollar chocolate coins. I have no idea exactly how many coins; however, by looking at descriptions of the item online, it seems to have come with about 80 coins.
Fort Knox is actually a really popular brand for chocolate coins, and a brand I highly recommend. They sell a variety of chocolate coins, ranging from not only Kennedy half dollars to pennies...and even CHOCOLATE MEDALS.
Yep that's right, they sold large chocolate medals, found 'em at a local Meijer, they are just as good as the coins are.
They also sold dark chocolate coins, wrapped in silver-colored and light blue foil. I ended up not buying 'em, simply to the fact that I'm not a fan of dark chocolate.
I actually prefer these over the Palmer brand, because they are less sweet and I can actually handle eating 'em without other foods. These coins were the same size as the half-dollars and large gelts of the Palmer brand, about, if not exactly one and a half inches.
3. Candy City
My cousin got me this one, and unlike they other coins, they were actually quarters in sunshine-gold foil.
She actually went creative, and put them in a Chinese takeout-box influenced gift box. They're from Party City, a store I never knew even sold 'em (I assume year-round, but I could be wrong), and comes from a brand known as Candy City.
I'm going to say, it's pretty much on par with the Fort Knox brand, great taste, and not too terribly sweet either.
The Standings...
In all of the three, I'll actually go ahead say that Fort Knox is the winner in variety, but is on par with Candy City according to taste, Palmer wins in creativity. I can't say that I have an "utmost favorite" as all three brands are unique in their own special way.
I sealed with off pairing it with a hot chocolate beverage that was given to me at work, as well as a sweet pastry from an Asian bakery in Illinois; the best compliments to chocolate coins!
Coffee works just as well, water is more of a necessity just in case you find it too sweet.

Well folks...by the time you read this, 2016 has come to an end. I look forward to a great 2017, and wish y'all a Happy New Year! The Christmas-Hannukah Episode of Sweet Season ends, and we will soon be moving into the Valentines Day Episode! See y'all there!
