Well, it is that time of year again. School is over, finals are around the corner, and it is time to head home to spend time with the FAMILY and FRIENDS you have not seen in months due to the countless hours that you have spent with your nose in textbook after textbook. You cannot recall the last time you saw the outside of the library and classrooms that have been your home for the Fall semester. You finally get to feel the sun on your face and shake off the hangover that has been caused by the lack of sleep that has come from finals.
The trip home starts off with excitement. You can’t wait to be home with family and friends that you have not seen in ages. You get to sleep in your own bed, and not to mention the hot, home-cooked meals you get to experience over the break. No more of the cold, dining hall meals that you have been forced fed since you started to semester. Life could not get any better.
However, you start to realize how bored you get without something to do every day. Even though you had come to dread going to class, you start to miss having somewhere to be every day. You now spend your days lying on the couch watching hours of Netflix. While it is nice to have a break, you start to miss hanging out with your friends from college and being in a place you now consider your home.
You parents will eventually tire of seeing you lying on the couch all day. This will lead to the never ending family functions where you just cannot seem to remember the names of your relatives (probably because you have not seen them since your infancy).
Also, if you have siblings you know that it is more than likely that you will have to rekindle that love-hate relationship that you have avoided all semester. Even though you love them with all your heart that does not mean you will not at some point plot their murder. Especially, if they have the audacity to touch the remote while you are watching you favorite T.V. show.
This, however; cannot rid you of the excitement you feel when you think of the awesome holiday feasts you get to enjoy.
Just remember that you love your family even when they put you in situations that you and your family do not participate in until the holidays are around the corner.
You realize that Christmas is around the corner and your time with your family is coming to an end. Even though your family has the tendency to drive you insane, you love them anyways. So enjoy the time you have with them because before you know it you will be back in class and on campus where you have to schedule time to relax.
(Just remember to not follow in Sherlock's footsteps and drug you whole family on Christmas Day. They just might send you back to school early.)
