Temple University is a unique place. Right in the middle of North Philadelphia, its students thrive. Being only a mile and a half from Center City, students are given opportunities not only at Temple, but in the city of Philadelphia as well. But, coming to college can be scary, especially when you are in a new city. We all find a way to survive it.
Always carry change with you.
There is about a 100 percent chance that if you are walking around campus, you will run into a Greek can shake throughout your four years. A lot of these organizations are raising money for amazing causes. Don't be afraid to drop some change into their cans, you will be amazed at the difference it makes. Can shakes are extremely successful for fraternities and sororities so always remember to carry some extra change in your wallet because every penny counts.
Go to the football games.
Home football games are not only extremely fun, but now with a so far undefeated season, the atmosphere has completely changed. The players need their fans behind them, even at their worst. So, go to the games, you never know when they might surprise you and you could experience history...(cough cough Temple vs. Penn State).
Take advantage of the tech center.
Our TECH Center is one of the largest in the nation. Temple poured tons of money into getting all of these resources for its students. This lab is not just computers; there are music labs, graphic design labs, recording booths and so much more. What's even better? None of it is specific to any major, so if you're a good singer, you can literally go use the recording booth for free. Pretend your Beyoncé for a day, there are no negatives for checking out the TECH Center.
Get involved.
The easiest way to meet people is by getting involved. With our 300+ clubs and organizations on campus, there is something for almost anyone who is interested. Joining clubs has helped me to meet some amazing people.
Don't feed the squirrels.
Just don't.
If you need breakfast, go to Richie's.
By far one of the most popular choices for students. If you don't get one of his breakfast sandwiches on a kaiser roll before you graduate, you did your four years wrong.
Try the pesto pasta at J&H.
Just like Richie's if you don't try this before you graduate, you did your four years wrong.
Explore the City.
This is Philadelphia, and for many Temple students, these are the only years you will be living in this amazing city. Take advantage of it. Explore. Go to Old City. Go to South Street. Check out Walnut Street. Go to the Art Museum. There is so much to do so do it!
You are only in college for four years. Why not make the best of it.
