Surprisingly, we all have targets on our backs

It is not a question of who has the larger target etched into their country's terrain but rather the ugly truth that we all have targets and we are all taking aim.

As I sit here writing these words, I am struck by the reality of how crazy this world is becoming. We live in a world where our reality is suicide bombers, children fleeing across borders, and a world dying beneath our very feet. Surrounded by all of this sadness and devastation, how does humanity react?

There are those of us who live in fear for what might become of this world and of us and those who let their fear transcribe into anger that fuels them forward to fight the injustice of this world.

In this world, where the monsters are becoming scarier and the dark heavier, we are becoming much more divided in our fear. Countless times on the news and even in conversation, I have heard people say that we have targets on our backs and it's only a matter of time before someone takes aim. As an American, it a common thing to witness people debating where we have the more prominent target or whether that lies on some other country's back.

I think that question is one that should not be asked but rephrased.

It is not a question of whom has the larger target etched into their country's terrain but rather the ugly truth that we all have targets and we are all taking aim. In each country, there are multitudes of philosophies, ideologies, and beliefs and each one comes with a different opinion and a different fight.

In the new century, we have witnessed the terrain of this world change in ways that produce nightmares in our reality. There are people who live in fear and shudder at the sound of an airplane. There are countries whose beautiful landscapes have turned into war zones. There are families separated because the two sides cannot agree on what is right and wrong.

This is a delicate time politically, socially, and economically. It is a delicate time for humanity. Instead of letting these issues tear us apart and lead us into the streets screaming at each other, let it bring us together and talk as one global community to right what is wrong in this world and etch a new landscape and atmosphere that our children can live in contently.

I believe this is our mission and our responsibility and I hope with all of my being that I will see it carried out in this lifetime.

We need peace. We need understanding. And we need to come together as a global community. I have faith.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
