When explaining my love for BANGS Shoes, I usually tell my friends that they are converse but better. I don’t argue this for just the style, but because the brand is absolutely incredible.

Hannah Davis, the creator of BANGS Shoes was inspired by a pair of work boots workers wore in China. After working there and having the idea to create a sneaker inspired by that model built the company around a pair of sneakers she created off of the style of work boots worn in China.

Since that moment of inspiration, BANGS Shoes has developed and evolved into what it is today. Hannah’s idea has now turned into an ever-growing brand and community focused around the idea of adventure and kindness that reaches its fifth anniversary this week. With that celebration in mind, here are five reasons you should support BANGS Shoes.

1. They are fashionable

I mean, just look at them. High tops will never go out of style, and BANGS Shoes’ version are classic yet unique. BANGS have the familiar look of high tops but in perfect shades of deep red, burnt orange, eggplant purple, and much more. And if their one-of-a-kind colors are not individualized enough for you, customization is encouraged. The site hosts a variety of accessories from patches to socks to anklets to laces- BANGS loves seeing the special flare each customer brings to their products, which brings me to my next point…

2. BANGS isn’t just a brand, it’s a community

Social Media is how creator Hannah Davis promotes the brand, and it works because they have built a community around the way BANGS gets their name out there. They have a program of BANGS Ambassadors that I am proud to be a part of where BANGS selects a large group of people every season to post pictures of their BANGS Shoes or other attire on Instagram. The brand ambassadors are a team of creative, inspiring people that help celebrate the brand and promote its mission through social media.

3. BANGS promotes adventure

BANGS’s slogan is “Your Adventure Helps Others Find Theirs”, and that is what their community stands for. If you look at the BANGS Shoes Instagram, travel envy smacks you in the face. They feature images from their wide community and you can see that nature and exploration is what the brand loves to showcase.

4. They are extremely comfortable

With adventure at the forefront of the brand’s campaign, you have to hope that BANGS are comfortable and durable, and I can contest that they are. I have worn my trusty pair of Stonehenge High Tops in all weather conditions on my college campus and have even gone hiking in them numerous times without a single complaint.

5. The company gives back

Now, fashion, community, adventure, and comfort are great, but there is one thing that makes BANGS stand out to me. They care. Not just about the company, not just about their customers, but the entire world. Hannah Davis set up the brand so that 20% of the brand’s net profit goes to helping small businesses start up all around the world through Kiva.org. So far, BANGS has helped 700 entrepreneurs according to their website.

Shoe companies are everywhere, but BANGS takes a different business approach that aims to help others across the globe while providing customers with items they will buy anyway. So, BANGS Shoes, happy birthday! Thank you for working to make the world a better place one shoe at a time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
