"Supernatural" started in 2005 and it is currently running its eleventh season. Throughout the years, the TV show has managed to create and maintain a large base of fans around the country and outside of it. Here are some fun facts and goofs on the popular TV show according to IMDb.
Trivia
The people running the show, as well as the protagonists did not expect the show to go on for so many episodes. Misha Collins, who portrays Castiel, supported that during the hundredth episode party, someone said "[m]aybe we'll see you at the 200th!" and the attendees responded by laughing. However, Supernatural is running its 222nd episode this Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The last name of the main characters, Winchester, is itself accompanied by supernatural phenomena in real life. Oliver Winchester was the manufacturer of the Winchester repeating rifle, something that severely affected the life of his wife, Sarah Winchester.
Mrs. Winchester was allegedly advised by a fortune teller to keep building the mansion currently known as the “Winchester Mystery House” in San Jose, California. The reason was that in case the constructions stopped, the victims of Winchester rifles would haunt her for life. As a result, the mansion was under construction for 38 years. According to IMDb “[t]he strange design of the mansion is also attributed to this. It was built with dead ends and stairs to nowhere allegedly to confuse spirits.”
Moreover, there is some background information on the casting of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. IMDb reports that:
“Originally Jensen Ackles auditioned for the role of Sam Winchester. When Jared Padalecki came in and read for Sam a slight recasting was done. Producers called Jensen and asked if he'd rather use his charm for Dean, saying he was the Han Solo character of the duo and what kid didn't grow up wanting to be Han Solo? Jensen accepted. It became known that he was previously interested in that role, because Dean was funny.”
In addition, both main characters of "Supernatural" have at some point in their careers auditioned for the double role of Superman/Clark Kent. Jared Padalecki was among the finalists for Superman’s reboot directed by McG (Joseph McGinty "McG" Nichol). Similarly, according to IMDb, Jensen Ackles was “the second choice to play a young Clark Kent in the show 'Smallville' (2001)” before he gets the role of Jason Teague in the same show.
Finally, according to the initial draft, Dean was covered in tattoos. However, budgetary issues prevented this idea from becoming reality.
Geographical Mistakes – Goofs
Naturally, since the script suggests different locations for every episode, there have been occasional geographical misrepresentations.
The fact that the show is not directed in the places it cites occasionally becomes evident. In real life, the show is filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada, which at times cannot adequately support the shape of landscapes of states such as Kansas and Indiana. For example, during the first season episode “Hook Man”, which was located to Iowa according to the script, palm trees could be seen “in an overhead view”.
Finally, IMDb reports:
“In every episode (through episode 2.20), the boys are showing off a Kansas license plate, the county tag reads "SG". In all actuality, the county for Lawrence should read "DG" for Douglas County.”
