Summer is coming, and it’s coming fast. For those of us who are attending school through the rest of the year, this is the chance for us to receive a brief, blessed reprieve from books and schoolwork. It’s our chance to let our hair down (well, figuratively--it’s too hot to let our hair down in reality), and enjoy our freedom, however temporary and imagined it may be.

Everyone knows that a good summer break needs, fun, sun, and a great soundtrack. I’m sure that you’re already the life of the party, and the imminent danger of climate change and global warming ensures the presence of the sun, so all that’s left to do is put together a great playlist for this summer.

I’ve compiled a few of my favourite songs that I will definitely be vibing to this summer. Some of them are old, some of them are new, but all of them are going to help keep us in the mindset to bask in the best and brightest season of the year.

Feel free to add some of your own tracks to this list, and make a soundtrack completely your own. No matter what background music you decide to use, remember to enjoy your summer to the fullest!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
