Wherever You Start Is Better Than Where You Were Two Seconds Ago, Go After What You Want

Summer is a new season so make something of it

Wherever You Start Is Better Than Where You Were Two Seconds Ago, Go After What You Want
Sydnee Martin

When good things happen, it’s like the Universe is falling in line with what you want and what you are trying to pursue. You are able to work hard and get what you want. Maybe some called it luck, fate, destiny, etc., but whatever it is, it’s amazing and it feels like you’re doing everything right, right?

As the summer begins, it gives us a chance to work on our goals and dreams. It just feels like the perfect time to actually go out there and do what you need to because there probably wasn’t enough time during the standard nine months of school/work. Of course, there are some that work year-round, but what I’m trying to say is that with each close on a different season and you start up a new season, that beginning period feels like the doors are reopening for you again.

The things that you couldn’t do last season probably have the chance to open up new ideas for you during a different season. In this case, it’s summer. The season where the sun comes out, you’re out with friends/family, spending more time outside, the list goes on.

This piece is for those who feel that summer is their time to shine (pun not intended, I promise). And I want you to know, the person reading this, that I believe in you this summer and that you have the chance to do whatever your heart desires. It kind of baffles me that we are on this Earth, with so many possibilities, and that half the time we don’t go after what we want.

I believe that we can do anything possible if we put our mind to it. I really do, but we just have to be willing to put ourselves through the grueling workload and early mornings or late nights. It brings to mind something I saw from a fellow content creator on Instagram where she made a poll/discussion about working that 9-5. The time that we see all adults go through and we are just dreading that moment when we get to it if you haven’t already.

Yet, some things will be given to us that we don’t want to do, especially for those creatives who thrive off of the creative energy and not the cubicle or standard office lifestyle. We do things not because it’s the way life goes, but because we have to. If that makes sense, even though it may or may not have.

Sometimes we have to go through the hard work and discipline because later on down the road we will get what we want as long as we put our heart and soul into it.

Finishing up the second and last semester of my sophomore year was one of the toughest things to go through. This semester I really was going to call it quits on the school life for a couple of months until I figured myself out. Maybe it’s the best idea or maybe not, to be honest, I really don’t know what I am doing, but I do know where I kind of want to go. However, I was able to raise my GPA up past where I need it to be so far, I received a job offer during the summer when I thought I wouldn’t get anything, and I’m starting so many new journeys.

Nobody has it figured out, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t aggravating to constantly feel like the world is going against you.

So as this summer is getting ready to start, do everything and anything in your power to go after what you want. Write in a notebook every day to get the ideas flowing, talk to a manager/business person for ideas, apply to that new job you think will be a great start, etc. Wherever you begin, just remember that it was better than where you were two seconds ago, and that’s all that matters.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
