As a college kid, summer can easily be considered one of the best times of the year. No more stressing over loads of school work, cramming for exams or dealing with annoying roommates for a couple of months. During the summer you can catch up on sleep, catch up with all of your family and friends from home, and stay out late without the thought of something being due the next morning. But as you know, summer can get boring very quickly, so here are 10 positive and exciting things to do over the summer break that will better you for the upcoming months
1. Volunteer
As a college kid, volunteering not only looks good on your resume, but it also helps improve your community. Volunteering is so fun when you find something you're passionate about. Volunteering also humbles you, and it's for a good cause.
2. Take an online summer course
Since you will probably be spending a lot of time in bed anyway, why not knock some college courses out of the way. You will be able to lessen your school workload for the upcoming semester, or it might even set you up to graduate on time, and you can do all of this from your bed this summer.
3. Find a summer job
Working not only builds your resume, but it puts extra money in your pocket which is nice because as you know, college ain't cheap.
4. Evaluate your friendships/relationships
Whether you're 18 or 30, relationships shouldn't stress you out. Over the summer find out who is really there for you and who isn't. Get rid of those friends who switch up on you and kick it with the ones that have always supported you. This goes for relationships as well. If he isn't being the kind of boyfriend that you need him to be, then let him go and if the guy you like doesn't want to commit, move on.
5. Write, Write, Write
Writing down your daily thoughts and feelings will help you become self-aware. This will help you understand why you feel the way you do and help you better understand your personality. This also allows you to understand how people perceive you at certain moments.
6. Ask him/her out
If you've been liking someone but haven't built up the courage to ask them out yet, then do that this summer. Ask your crush out on a date; you never know- this could be your summer fling, or it could maybe even turn into the real deal.
7. Make the best of your summer
As college students, I know life can be stressful, and when you're a broke college student, that stress can be accompanied by worry, but remember the position you're in is only temporary. You are young, and you only have 2 months until the next semester begins again so make the best of it.
8. Take a road trip
Call your girls, rent a car, fill it up, and go. Summer road trips are a fun way for you and all your friends to be together and catch up.
9. Read
Even if it's just a chapter a day, read. This will improve your mind and expand your vocabulary.
10. Don't forget to enjoy your break.
If you're like me, your whole life is school and working to pay for school and during the summer it's summer school and working to pay for summer school which can be draining. Don't forget summer break is supposed to be a break. Get a job, but don't overwork yourself, take a summer course, but do it online. Summer break is supposed to be a relaxing time of the year, so take a break because you deserve it.
