Summer Is Almost Over... And I Haven't Done Anything

The time has come; July is almost over, which means school is about to start in a few short weeks. Right around this time you may find yourself panicking because all you have done this summer is binge-watch Netflix. No worries, I’ve got you covered. I have taken the liberty of compiling a list of things to do before summer is over.

  1. Go to a concert. No summer is complete without attending at least one concert, so if you haven’t already, do it now. Plus, you can take plenty of Instagram-worthy pictures.
  2. Find a new restaurant. While I wouldn’t consider myself a foodie, my sister totally is. She has a knack for finding the best hidden gems when it comes to restaurants. Do some research and make a night out of it!
  3. Spend quality family time. If you’re like me, you won’t realize how much you’ll miss your family until they’re driving away on move-in day.
  4. Road trip. As summer is winding down, so are summer jobs. Now is the perfect time to take a day or weekend trip with your friends.
  5. Have a bonfire. Bonfires are perhaps one of the most underrated summer activities. You can make s’mores with different candy like Reese’s, or roast hotdogs!
  6. Go to the beach. This may be one of my favorite summer activities. However, if you are like my boyfriend and hate sand, or you do not have a beach near you, a pool will suffice.
  7. Plan a shopping trip. About 30 minutes from my house is a huge outdoor mall with all the high-end shops. My mom, sister and I love to make a day out of shopping and browsing the latest collection at Henri Bendel.
  8. Groupon. It is a free app that gives you coupons for all different things in your area. Need a date idea or want to plan a day with friends? I guarantee you will find something fun (and cheap) to do if you use this app.
  9. Spend time with friends from home. I feel like we think summer is super long until it’s over and you’re left feeling like it was three days long. Being on different schedules with friends at home is rough during the school year, so make the most of your time living in the same state.

And if all else fails...

10. Pinterest. Just look at the “everything” tab. Find a craft or recipe or hairstyle to try out, and I promise you will find yourself enlightened with all kinds of fabulous ideas.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
