Sorry, Summer Is Actually The Worst

I know winter can suck pretty bad, but hear me out on this one.

When late October/ early November rolls around, I begin to regret wishing for cool weather. Now that it's late April and it's 80 degrees every day; however, I'm beginning to regret wishing for piping hot sunshine every day. For the next five or six months, we will all be miserably sweaty and smelly. Here are some of my reasons for disliking summer.

Dumb Holidays

Fall and Winter take the prize when it comes to bombing holidays. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even my Birthday fall during this time of year. There are constant breaks from school and work and endless food and presents to go around. During the summer, though, there's not much to offer. I mean, I guess the Fourth of July is alright because you at least get some barbecue and sometimes fireworks, but it's usually just three hours awkward spent with your family waiting for the sky to be dark enough for fireworks to be visible.

Bathing Suit Season

I don't know about you, but I haven't ever been too confident in my own skin. Every year, I see girls posting Instagram pictures of themselves in their bikinis with their perfect bodies while I'm chilling on the couch eating a Cosmic Brownie. Summer just has an added pressure, to me, to look a certain way because you have to wear shorts, tank tops, and bathing suits all the time if you don't want to have a heat stroke. All in all, I just like winter because I can hide my blubber under a nice, oversized sweatshirt and leggings.

Bugs

Summer just seems to be a bug's favorite time of year. I could be minding my own business, enjoying a popsicle and out of nowhere a freaking June bug will want to fly into my hair to ruin my peace. A nice walk outside could be turned into an all-out war if a wasp turns up out of nowhere. I'm one of those people that will begin running and screaming if I see a beetle crawling on my arm or a cicada flying towards me, so this time of year can be potentially humiliating at any time.

The Heat

Whether you are going outside for a brisk walk or simply walking from your car in the driveway to your house, you may burst into flames. I'm one of those people that is blindingly pale or lobster red, so before I go outside I have to basically bathe in sunscreen if I don't want to become an actual pile of ashes as soon as the sun's rays make contact with my skin. Not only is there a risk of being burnt, but everyone is always sweaty and smelly. Some people don't know deodorant exists and it really shows during this time of year. Showering at least twice a day is a must.

Being Away from Friends

Believe me, I never thought I would complain about getting a break from school, but 3 months is a LONG time to be away. All of my closest friends, boyfriend, and even some of my relatives will be left behind here at school and to tell you the truth, it's going to be sad leaving them behind over the summer. Of course, I will visit everyone and we will catch up again in the fall, but it just won't be the same for a while.

So, there you have it. Summer is actually the worst time of year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
