Well, it's that time of year again. The flip flops and the tank tops are coming out of hiding, and they're ready to face the world. Summer is something that everyone looks forward to, but depending on what year of school you're in, summer may be different for you

High School:

Your last few days of the school year consists of trips to the beach with half of your school. You and your friends pretend to know how to barbecue, splash around a bit, but mostly just work on your tan.

College:

Exam week is the shortest and longest week of your life. Your eyes are crusted shut, and you're not sure if it's because you haven't slept in two days or because you can't stop crying when all your friends say goodbye.

High School:

Your family is pissing you off. Don't they understand that summer is the time to have fun and see your friends

College

: You can count on one hand the people that you still talk to from high school. Your mom told you to stop following her around. Your siblings are all with their friends. Even your dog is sick of you bugging her.

High School:

Your diet consists of drinks from Tropical Smoothie, and you're still working on that 'bikini bod.

College:

You're still trying to get used to actually having food in the fridge and eating things that didn't come out of the freezer.

High School:

You make plans for the summer like going to the movies, movie marathons, town fairs, and spending as much time as you can in the sun.

College:

Yes, your bank account may have $1.25 in it now, but if you work 50 hours a week maybe you can make up the money you spent last semester.

High School:

When summer is over, you morn the loss of your freedom and prepare for another year in classes for seven hours every week day.

College:

You'll miss your family a lot, but mostly you can't wait to go back to your college home and have all your friends back together.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
