5 Essential Summer Trends

Summer in Florida can be a mixture of rainy afternoons, sunny beach days, and sticky humidity. Due to this bi-polar weather it is important to dress to the outside, but you don't want to give up being fashionable. Here are FIVE current trends that can be worn through out all the different types of summer weather in Florida.

1. Blush Tones

Every summer has a specific color that can be worn in any form. In 2017 it is blush. This light pink color is not as harsh as white and can be paired with a variety of fabrics and patterns. My favorite outfit for the summer is a monochromic shirt and short set. This is especially perfect for avoiding the heat, for the light color does not attract the sun like darker colors do.

2. Mule Shoes

A strappy sandal can be difficult to tie correctly and the sweat alone is enough not to wear them in the summer. What's the next best thing then? A SLIDE ON! Mules are now very popular among street styles and are super easy to throw on while running out the door. They come in virtually every color, pattern, and fabric. There is even a rubber one and is perfect to wear to the beach.

3. Striped Slacks

Even though summer is a time for rest and relaxation, there is still a five day work week to get through. One way to make the week go faster is the indulge in the fashionable attire that is on trend this summer. One piece is striped slacks. These breathable pants add a sense of fun to a normal work uniform and can be worn with solid and mixed patterns.

4. Gingham Print

Formally known as a "preppy pattern", gingham has made a comeback this summer to offer Floridans a chance to look nice while staying cool. The light weight fabric is delicate to allow the occasion wind through. In addition, the gingham print can be worn in any type of clothing and in any color, including bathing suits.

5. Patched Denim

A carry through from the fall trend, patched denim can also be worn through the summer, even in Florida. Many brands have evolved this style to be made into summer friendly pieces, including shorts, skirts, and overalls. This fun and flirty trend can be personalized with the addition of patches individually chosen.

These summer trends can be worn together and are fun to play around with. I chose these specific ones because of how versatile they can be worn in the heat of Florida. But let's be real all we ever wear here is a bathing suit and flip- flops during the summer.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
