8 Ways My Summer Campers Make My Summer Brighter

While some are spending their days at the beach, mine are spent with children.

I have always been a driven individual who dedicates a lot of time to working hard, and summer time is no different. As an upcoming teacher, I'm spending my time this summer working with nine high-spirited children ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade. Our days are filled with so much laughter and games that each day brings a new adventure.

1. Bridge Time.

Even though it is summer, each day we dedicate some time to work on materials related to the student's upcoming grade in school. It is one of the few times a day that I get to be one-on-one with a child, and I love seeing their personalities and intelligence shine through.

2. So much laughter!

Often, its the little things that cause the most laughter in kids; And let's face it, kids are hilarious! No matter if its what they say or do, our days are full of smiles and laughter.

3. Watching their creativity thrive.

I often find myself just watching and observing my kids because they thrive off creativity. They come up with their own little games everyday, and its such a cool thing to witness.

4. Seeing their interactions with each other and teachers.

Something I think special abut my school is the amount of love spread throughout onto our kids. Not only do we love our kids and our kids us, but our kids love each there.

5. Learning their interests, their likes, and their findings.

Each child has their own unique personality, and watching it surface is so much fun. Each activity we do makes some children light up. I love getting to know my kids and everything about them in our time together.

6. All the questions, even when it's a constant matter everyday.

Anyone who's worked with children know that they constantly ask questions. It's interesting to see things from the kid's perspective because we frequently find ourselves assuming everything, but children ask any question that comes to mind. I love getting to hear what my kids are thinking about!

7. Seeing their faces light up when their parents come to pick them up at the end of the day.

Nothing is better then seeing a child's face light up for their parents - their joy and happiness brings me to tears sometimes!

8. The parents.

Parents are the reason I have these kids to work with, and they're always a joy to have around. As I've gotten to know them and their children, it literally begins to feel like one big family. I'm so grateful to them for giving me this time with their children!

Being a teacher is no easy task. However, it is one of the most rewarding because children are the future, and as a teacher, I'm helping to frame the future. It's so cool to witness hands-on children learning and developing their own personalities. I may be working 40 hour weeks for my summer vacation this year, but the rewards are worth it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
